Diesel Mechanic

Job Summary: The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing the company’s fleet of diesel-powered trucks and specialized utility construction equipment, including hydrovacs, digger derricks, bucket trucks, trailers, and other heavy-duty vehicles. This role ensures all equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with DOT and OSHA regulations to support utility construction operations. This position requires frequent travel to support field operations across multiple states.

Key Responsibilities:

• Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel engines, transmissions, electrical systems, hydraulics, brakes, and suspensions on company fleet vehicles.
• Perform preventive maintenance and DOT inspections on hydrovacs, digger derricks, bucket trucks, and trailers.
• Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems, PTOs, aerial lift components, and outriggers.
• Service emissions systems, fuel systems, turbochargers, cooling systems, and after-treatment components.
• Conduct field service and emergency breakdown repairs at job sites as needed.
• Document all maintenance and repairs in compliance with company and DOT requirements.
• Maintain shop tools, equipment, and an organized inventory of parts and supplies.
• Work closely with fleet managers and operators to prioritize repairs and minimize equipment downtime.
• Ensure safety protocols are followed at all times when working in the shop or field.
• Stay current with new diagnostic tools, repair methods, and industry safety standards.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED required; technical certification in diesel technology preferred.
• Minimum 1-3 year experience in diesel mechanics, including boom work, hydraulics, and 12-volt chassis systems.
• Must have own tools.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and fleet diagnostics.
• CDL Class B required or ability to obtain (Class A preferred).
• ASE or EVT certifications in truck/heavy equipment repair a plus.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics, service manuals, and diagnostic codes.
• Must be able to lift 100 lbs. and work in varying weather and job site conditions.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently.
• Must be willing to travel 50–70% between Georgia, Indiana, and Michigan.

Work Environment:

• Primarily shop-based, with frequent field service and roadside repairs on active construction sites.
• Exposure to noise, tools, diesel fuel, grease, and outdoor weather conditions.
• Frequent travel required to various job sites across assigned states.
