Job Summary
The GIVE (Gun Involved Violence Elimination) initiative, administered by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), aims to reduce shooting victimization in high-need communities by supporting local law enforcement, prosecutors, and probation departments utilizing evidence-based policing strategies.
The Digital Evidence Specialist is responsible for supporting the Rochester Police Department's Non-Fatal Shooting Team by analyzing, producing, and editing various forms of digital evidence in furtherance of violence reduction efforts targeting firearm-related offenses. The role involves performing a wide range of technical and investigative tasks, including video editing, digital evidence analysis, and the examination of cell phone and social media data. Duties also include the creation of photo arrays, the development and editing of fillers for identification procedures, and assisting in the production of investigative bulletins and videos. The incumbent will organize, maintain, and manage digital evidence, as well as provide assistance to detectives, prosecutors, and technicians in the recovery and processing of evidence as needed. Additional responsibilities include providing court testimony and performing related tasks as assigned by higher-level staff.

Required Qualifications:-
Five years of experience in digital forensics that includes producing and editing video and still images using digital editing software and developing presentations of digital evidence
OR

A Bachelor's Degree in Digital Forensics, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited or NYS-registered college or university, and three years of experience as noted above.
AND
-
Prior law enforcement experience in criminal investigations and/or the recovery and processing of evidence.
Preferred Qualifications:-
Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop software
Previous work with some or all of the GIVE team members is highly preferred (Rochester Police Department, Monroe County District Attorney, Monroe County Office of Probation, Monroe County Sheriff's Office, as well as other relevant partners). Prior experience providing sworn testimony in criminal proceedings is also highly desired.
