Join our team at Houston Parks Board (HPB) in Houston, Texas, celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2026. We are seeking a Digital Marketing & Communications Manager to help tell our story. This role supports HPB’s Advancement and Engagement team through digital marketing assets including multi-platform social media channels, email marketing tools, website development, content management, and communication strategies. Houston Parks Board is a nonprofit organization working to expand, improve, and protect parks and greenspace across the Houston region. Through partnerships with the City of Houston, Harris County and local communities, we are building a greener, healthier, and more connected city for everyone.
Position Overview

General support for the Communications and Engagement, Advancement, and Programming teams

Assist the Director of Communications & Engagement in developing communication strategies, including writing or editing press materials, articles and blogs, producing flyers, signs, and other necessary materials

Manage all aspects of HPB’s social media presence including Facebook, Twitter (X), LinkedIn, and Instagram

Develop HPB’s annual social media strategy by setting goals, and measurable objectives

Develop a weekly social media content calendar and create all associated graphics and copy

Attend events and meetings to post live coverage as needed

Develop engagement strategies to grow followers and build relationships with parks and bayou greenways users and the audience at-large

Maintain monthly social media analytics, evaluate the effectiveness of social media platforms and tactics, provide monthly reports

Administer and update the website on a regular basis, including development and management of a citywide parks event calendar

Collect and develop content, organize, edit, produce and distribute a monthly newsletter, and annual report; including collaboration on articles, blogs, calendars, and schedule of events

Manage and organize photography needs and storage

Using Mailchimp, design, prepare, and distribute email marketing content in addition to monthly newsletter

Maintain accurate and up-to-date email lists in Mailchimp

Implement campaigns to grow HPB’s newsletter contact database
Key Responsibilities
1. Content Creation

Generate original photo and video content fitting to each social media platform, the HPB website, newsletter, and other communication assets

Catalog user-generated and other external content

Maintain and evaluate current social media strategies and trend
2. Audience Engagement and Messaging

Increase impressions and overall engagement organically

Respond to messages and comments within 24 hours, when appropriate

Help create and implement internal and external HPB messaging
3. Support HPB’s Mission, Projects, & Teams

Collaborate with Director of Communications & Engagement to plan and execute content related to long-term projects and HPB’s strategic plan

Collaborate with teams to make website updates
4. Obtaining, Managing and Organizing Content Assets

Requirements:
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, public relations or related field
- 6+ years of relevant professional experience
- Proven experience in social media; including channels like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter (X), LinkedIn
- Demonstrable experience with social media analytics, web traffic metrics, and SEO
- Excellent writing, editing, presentation and communication skills
- Tactical understanding of media relations
- Good time management skills and ability to meet strict deadlines
- Photo and video creation and editing knowledge
- Efficient in Mailchimp and managing mailing lists
- Experience working in Canva, Adobe Creative Suite or related design programs
- Local environmental training and/or experience a plus
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Preferred Skills & Approaches
- High proficiency in relevant social media and trends
- Proven computer skills with an emphasis on website administration with experience in HTML/CSS and a general understanding of basic back-end coding
- Self-starter mentality with little direction necessary, desire to learn and improve
- Working knowledge of social media production and management services (ex: SproutSocial)
- Detail oriented, highly organized, and professional demeanor
- Enjoy providing support to various departments and helping others with their communication requests
- Comfortable with being flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced environment and adhering to fast and impromptu deadlines
- Ability to work on multiple projects with varying deadlines while producing high-quality work and exercising extreme attention to detail
- Demonstrate writing experience for e-marketing and e-blasts, social media, newsletters, digital advertising, and website copy
- Fluent in Spanish, written and oral, a plus
- Comfortable receiving direction, then executing individual projects independently, taking initiative, and making sound decisions
- Comfortable working on high-profile projects that impact our region, the public, elected officials, and important stakeholders
Position Setting
The Digital Marketing & Communications Manager must be able to work in various weather conditions in order to gather and create content. Must be able to access Parks reliably as well as manage office work. Must be available to work evenings and weekends occasionally, in order to provide event coverage for HPB. This is a hybrid working position.

Compensation:
This is a salary, exempt position, with a range of $75,000-$80,000 commensurate with skills and experience. Benefits include full medical, dental and vision benefits, paid time off, short-and long-term disability, and 403b retirement plan.
