Job Summary

Provide digital content and compliance support, communications expertise, and project management to University of Illinois Extension marketing and communications. Design, advise, and implement strategies and tactics to better share stories and educational content with appropriate target audiences across Extension's vast portfolio of social media, digital, and web platforms.

Duties & Responsibilities

Social Media, Website, and Digital Content Management

  • Help coordinate new website development projects: collaborate with subject matter experts and MarCom staff to determine content needs, manage writing/editing/image selection, ensure digital accessibility compliance.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications team, unit communicators, educators, and program leaders to develop, implement, and execute web and digital marketing and communications plans tailored to specific project needs and goals.
  • Manage digital analytics systems, including SEO, social, web, internal data, and social listening tools, and provide regular reporting on performance to identify high-value opportunities.
  • Support planning team in the execution, analysis, and optimization of digital marketing campaigns for Illinois Extension.
  • Support and execute efforts to identify, prioritize, develop, create, or remediate digital content for accessibility compliance on websites and social media channels.
  • Execute weekly/monthly/annual content review and turnover management in collaboration with senior manager and content creation staff (to include topic pages, campaign content, shared content, blogs, newsletters, and events).
  • Manage assigned projects within the team project management system, ensuring deadlines are tracked and projects are delivered on time.
  • Represent Illinois Extension in ACES and campus conversations regarding social media use.

Internal Consulting and Training

  • Support and help develop policies, best practices, checklists, and training for effective and compliant content creation and placement on Extension’s vast network of digital platforms.
  • Provide direct training and support to staff to improve the efficient and effective use of social media tools.
  • Provide support and guidance to units and topic site editors as needed to meet brand and website best practices and increase engagement.

Research and Best Practices

  • Identify, evaluate, and report on new communication channels and technologies.
  • Monitor market trends, internal data, and industry best practices in digital content and platforms to inform best practices and drive engagement.
  • Contribute to the development of new communication products, campaigns, policies, or projects.

Additional Physical Demands

To perform the functions of this position, the employee will be required to perform work both within an office and outside in the communities that are served and must have the capability to travel from one location to the other in a timely fashion. Employee is responsible for securing personal transportation. A valid driver’s license is preferred. Some work will be required during evenings and/or weekends. When working, the employee may be exposed to a variety of environmental factors to include, but not limited to, hot or cold weather, exposure to noise and allergens, and uneven ground. In performing the functions of this position, the employee may be subjected to various mental and physical demands as well to include, but not limited to, independently traveling to and performing work at different locations, ability to move, transfer and/or transport items that may occasionally weigh up to forty (40) pounds and frequently weigh up to twenty (20) pounds, and twisting, pushing and pulling movements. Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration, communications, public relations, or a closely related field. Three (3) years of professional work experience in marketing, public relations, communications, brand management, or a related professional area. Demonstrated experience in web content management.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with the translation of both scientific and academic work products into communication pieces that are accessible to lay audiences.
Skills in writing, proofing, and editing.
Proficiency with online content management and social media platforms.
Experience accessing web and social media analytics systems and generating reports.
Knowledge of Windows desktop computer applications.

  • Ability to efficiently and reliably manage multiple projects simultaneously and to work well with diverse people in a team environment.
  • Ability to learn new programs and create systems of work.
  • Ability to contribute to a high-performing team and to adhere to established quality standards and deadlines.
  • Ability to review and analyze the content of websites in collaboration with subject-matter experts.
  • Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English for editing and creating correspondence, storytelling, and project management.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5004 - Marketing Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. The budgeted salary for the position starts at $55,000.
