Westview Church Digital Media Producer

Position Objectives

1. To lead the Audio-Visual component of the Westview ministry, ensuring that all output and products are of the highest quality and available to all viewers on demand in a user-friendly manner.

2. To ensure that all live streams, podcasts, video shorts, and other output are planned, produced, directed, recorded, archived, and maintained in a manner that complements, enhances, and promotes the Westview ministry.

a. To help facilitate meaningful worship on Sunday mornings, both for the in-person congregation and for those watching live online

b. Working with the Pastor, Social Media Coordinator, and church staff to help grow the church body through digital/electronic outreach with audio and video content across multiple platforms and formats

c. To provide quality planning and production of video, audio, lighting, and all associated systems for specified church events including Sunday Worship services, streaming broadcasts, special events, funerals, weddings, prayer services, etc.

d. To assist in developing and implementing a broad vision of digital ministry focused on Lutheran theology and teaching

3. Position reports to Church Pastor.

4. Candidates should be prepared to provide examples of previous work using appropriate AV media during employment interviews, which demonstrate required skills and experience.

Qualifications

· The contractor must have demonstrated experience in operating live stream AV productions, using YouTube OBS and other relevant systems

· Demonstrated ability to establish, organize, and maintain a high quality and user-friendly library of produced material across various platforms, including, but not limited to:

o YouTube

o Facebook

o Instagram

o X (Twitter)

o Next Door

o Tik Tok

o Others, as identified

· Experience in setup, operation, troubleshooting, and optimization of microphones and related stands, cables and switches, multiple, switched PTZ cameras, lighting, editing suites, soundboard, and additional software, as required

· Setup, operation, troubleshooting and real time monitoring of video, audio, and lighting systems both in church and for broadcast

· Demonstrated ability to produce optimized, high-quality output of the live stream, adjusting for conditions and situations as they arise

· Ability to work and interact collaboratively with the Pastor, Choir Director, Accompanist, Social Media Coordinator, and others to ensure successful setup, streaming, editing, library availability, maintenance, and retrievability of all AV products for the Westview team and all users/viewers

Expectations

  • The contractor is required to report to work on time for meetings, Sunday mornings, and any other extra services agreed
  • Hours worked will be booked to the time collection system in a timely manner
  • The contractor is asked to communicate with the team in a timely manner (i.e., responding to email and/or texts within 1 day) on projects, programs, schedules, issues, ideas, and needs. It is requested that calls, emails, and texts be generally sent during normal business hours M-F, except in extenuating circumstances

Typical Schedule

Sunday Mornings (9:00AM - 12:00PM) at Westview Church

Pre-Service (9:00AM – 9:30AM)

  • Video, audio, and lighting setup, sound check for choir, piano, podium and lapel mics, video/live streaming and recording check
  • Operational checks for all equipment, including location, volume, balance and batteries for all mics for specific service plans
  • Verifying presentation slide/incidental music accuracy consistent with the service plan.
  • Conduct a pre-service walk through/sound check at 9:10AM

During Service (9:30AM – 10:30AM)

· Display/project/change slides in accordance with the order of service in a timely manner

  • Monitoring video, including camera angles, slides, other clips and images, and streaming via YouTube
  • Monitoring audio, including monitoring feedback, sound quality, volume, muting and unmuting

Post-Service (10:30AM – 12:00PM)

  • Editing the audio of the service and exporting a stripped file (per Pastor’s instructions) to be used and referenced in mid-week podcasts
  • Editing video to produce a condensed version of the service that is more accessible for people watching asynchronously (per Pastor’s instructions)
  • Sending these files (via email or other agreed mode) to responsible individual (as designated by Pastor and Church Council) when finished
  • Striking sound and other equipment (as needed), closing sound room, lighting and other shutdown tasks, as required

Additional Job Responsibilities (When Applicable)

  • Attend meetings and/or training—as agreed and when applicable
  • Come to Westview, as agreed in advance, to adjust, modify and adjust, test systems, settings, and approaches, such as pre-service music, pre-and post-service slides, and new equipment configurations
  • Advise the Pastor and Church Council regarding system operability, issues, potential improvements, possible optimizations for setup, operations, efficiency, library organization and storage, and other items as they arise

Wages

Digital Media Producer will be paid per hour worked typically for five hours a week (as outlined in the “Typical Schedule” section above), or as agreed in advance with the Church Pastor. This includes:

  • Sunday Morning Worship – 1.5 hours
  • Post service on Sunday - Editing audio and video files for use on podcasts, YouTube, and other platforms (Typically 1.5 hours)
  • Attending meetings and training as agreed in advance with Pastor, when applicable.
  • Performing setup, testing, and troubleshooting when necessary

· Additionally, as agreed in advance, when needed for church approved events.

Job Type: Contract

· Salary: $150 per Sunday (as described above)

· $40.00 - $50.00 per hour for additional events/tasks (as agreed), depending on demonstrated qualifications

· Expected hours: Normally 3 – 5 per week

· Availability for additional events with advance notification, planning and agreement

Schedule:

  • Every Sunday morning (9:00am-noon)
  • Additional events and tasks, as agreed with the Pastor

Travel requirement:

  • No travel

Work Location: In person
