Direct Support Professional (DSP)

Duties

• Assist individuals with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation to foster independence and dignity.
• Support behavioral health and behavior management strategies to promote positive behaviors and emotional stability.
• Facilitate community outings, social activities, and recreational events to encourage socialization and community integration.
• Collect data on progress, behaviors, and service outcomes to inform care plans and ensure compliance with regulations.
• Administer medication following prescribed protocols while maintaining accurate medication administration records.
• Use effective communication skills including American Sign Language when necessary to enhance understanding and interaction.
• Drive individuals safely to appointments or community activities using personal or agency vehicles as required.

Requirements

• Diploma or GED or Equivalent
• Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, or disabilities in home or community settings.
• Knowledge of special education principles and behavioral health practices.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to connect empathetically with diverse populations.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record for transportation duties.
• Ability to assist with ADLs and provide caregiving support in various environments.
• Familiarity with data collection methods related to client progress or behavioral tracking.
• Basic understanding of medication administration protocols; previous experience is a plus.
