Department: Public Relations and Marketing

General Statement of Job

The Social Media Technician – Content Creator is responsible for content creation with the college’s social media presence in alignment with social media strategies under the direction

of the Communication and Creative Services department and will be a resource to the Communication team to assist in the day-to-day activities of the department.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Assists with collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop marketing and communication plans that leverage the social media space.

  • Assists with developing real-time, organic content to engage customers among our social media platforms – Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X and Snapchat.

  • Willingness to appear on camera and/or provide voiceover narration.

  • Engage with customers on social media platforms via comments and direct messages.

  • Learn and use Associated Press Style for content writing and other writing assignments as assigned.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

To qualify, one of the following must be met:

  • College Certificate

  • A minimum of 30 earned college hours

  • High School Diploma/GED and one (1) year of directly related experience

  • College student currently pursuing a degree in a related field preferred.

  • Working knowledge of content creation with social media platforms, including but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, including but not limited to, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X and Snapchat.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Strong background in computers and Microsoft Office with knowledge of working Windows and Mac OS.

  • Knowledge in or willing to learn, Adobe Creative Suite, among other hardware such as video and still photography cameras.

  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and complete multiple tasks with attention to detail, within stated deadlines.

  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as needed.

  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with a diverse multi-cultural college population.

  • Demonstrated commitment to achieving the vision and mission of South Texas College.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Requirements

  • Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

  • Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.

  • Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including the ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately and concisely.

  • Standing particularly for sustained periods of time.

  • Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires full motion of the lower extremities and back muscles.

  • Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.

  • Have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading, including color, depth perception, and field vision.

  • Visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned or to make general observations of facilities or structures.

  • Mobility to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances.
