JOB SUMMARY
The Director, Engagement Strategy works with senior healthcare clients on a variety of dynamic and future forward brands. The Director, Engagement Strategy is instrumental in developing plans that deliver value for targets as they interact with the variety of experiences designed to move them through the adoption funnel.
They dive into foundational strategy elements such as the brand purpose and personality, segmentation, target insights/behavior and channels/platforms to develop the engagement strategy. They find value and opportunity in using research and insights to develop customer journeys that focus on activation points. The Director, Engagement Strategy also helps run client workshops and distills outputs into actionable plans.
The Director, Engagement Strategy’s goal is to show how all channels and platforms work in concert to bring the brand promise to life. The ideal candidate demonstrates creative, innovative, and flexible thinking in their approach, their deliverables, and in client presentations. The role works collaboratively with clients, strategic planning leads, account leads, creative, and experience design, among many other diverse experts.
They are seen as a leader within the department and a rising leader within the agency. They consistently influence others on their own team to do the right thing for the brand, the department, and the agency. They advocate for the department cross-functionally with other departments and manage and mentor direct and indirect reports.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Customer Journey and Persona Development
Translates customer insights (current and desired mindset, behavior barriers and drivers) into a dynamic customer journey and/or personas that flex based on market trends.
Workshop facilitation
Designs and runs a variety of proprietary workshops based on the clients’ business needs, often including a cross-functional team consisting of clients, 3rd party partners, and agency experts.
Channel Selection and Audience media preference
Develops Engagement Ecosystems, NPP strategy, works with media teams, keeps the client updated on any trends in digital/social media through POVs.
Content Strategy
Develops messaging strategy aligned to the customer journey, content audits, content matrices, and content outlines.
Project Briefs
Writes project briefs for digital, social, and experiential-focused projects.
Talent Development
Manages junior engagement strategist; participates in agency initiatives; develops or leads projects for the department.
JOB DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

- Oversees day-to-day activity on assigned accounts, creating, and kicking off project briefs for standard engagement deliverables (eg, website) and working with larger brand teams at key strategic junctures to examine the current engagement strategy and provide recommendations for the future (eg, tactical planning.)
- Develops and maintains positive collaborative relationships with account management, strategic planning, media, creative counterparts, and senior marketing clients.
- Able to synthesize a variety of insights into actionable plans to drive brand goals.
- Marries strategic and creative aptitude to create meaningful, memorable, and measurably impactful engagement strategies for health/wellness space.
- Provides insights into the value and limitations of both on and offline channels.
- Serves as a key engagement team member on the brand team for the healthcare business and ensure the quality of the strategic and creative products the team produces.
- Can be a day-to-day lead on one or more accounts with limited supervision by a senior team member.
- Evangelizes engagement strategy’s value and directs accounts on engagement opportunities.
- Works closely with all stakeholders at the agency and regularly present ideas to clients.
- Can support a senior team member on new business pitches and present with them when appropriate (not usually pitching alone.)
- Manages junior-level engagement strategists and responsible for career development.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
- In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office and great comfort with quickly building PowerPoint decks, including ones with complex stories shown simply – and collaborating with multiple partners to do so.
- Highly effective use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint with multiple years’ experience doing so.
- Extremely strong written and verbal communication skills, including presenting in high-pressure situations.
- Must be a good active listener, with a collaborative working style.
- Great fluency with using Brainstorming software such as Stormz, Miro, and/or Mural.
- Ability to independently run workshops in Zoom, Stormz, Miro, and/or other online collaboration platforms preferred, and to train others how to do so as well.

- As a leader, a director of engagement strategy must be able to influence others within their department as well as the larger strategy team—and begin to influence other non-strategy departments, like account and creative—that they work with closely. Tact and relationship building are crucial to developing this influence, and a strong candidate should be able to demonstrate past experiences in which they have influenced a team to make the right decision.
