Job Summary and Qualifications

Engineering Director acts as an internal subject matter expert (SME) for hospital MEP systems. This person is responsible for review of MEP designs for hospital capital projects to optimize performance and to reduce cost and waste. KPIs include but are not limited to operating efficiency, carbon emissions, water use, resilience, maintainability, replaceability, longevity, and first cost.

What you will do in this role:

• Optimizing MEP designs for new projects
• Act as internal subject matter expert on MEP systems as needed
• Leads due diligence reporting for acquisitions and divestures of facilities
• Leads FacilitiGroup Research, Development, & Quality Department
• Coordinates work with other departments within HCA
• Leads Engineering team to support Construction and Facility engineering needs
• Reviews and critiques MEP assessment reports
• Reviews and critiques MEP design documents for greenfield hospitals, expansions & renovations, capital replacement/renewal/enhancement projects
• Reviews change orders
• Tracks and reports lessons learned from hospital design reviews
• Provides SME support for MEP design guidelines
• Visits sites as needed to assist operations or to consult on construction projects
• Visits sites for due diligence surveys for acquisitions
• Travel max - 25%

What qualifications you will need:

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology Required
• Minimum of 10 years of HVAC design AND 2+ years of MEP design OR energy plant operations
• Professional Engineer, EIT, or equivalent preferred
• In-depth knowledge of commercial or institutional level HVAC systems required including chillers and cooling tower, boilers, pumping systems
• Working knowledge of electrical (normal and emergency), plumbing, fire protection, medical gas, and sanitary systems preferred or ability to learn
• Self-motivated problem-solvers only
• Effective communication skills including public-speaking, slide presentations, writing of emails and reports, etc.
• Good working knowledge of MS Office – Word, Excel, Power Point required
• Familiarity with Power BI, e-Builder construction management platform, PDF creator/editors preferred but not required
