Insight CPA specializes in providing accounting, tax, and financial analysis services to HVAC, Plumbing, Landscaping, and other home service businesses across the United States. Our typical clients are service-based businesses between $1M and $20M annual revenue. We support these clients with: monthly accounting & financial reporting, complex bookkeeping cleanups, field service mgmt software support, tax strategy and tax filing, and fractional CFO services. We are a young and growing firm looking for a key early leader to work closely with our partners to shape how the firm operates and scales.

Role Description

The Director of Accounting is a full-time remote role with meaningful ownership, direct partnership with leadership, and the opportunity to shape both client outcomes and the business itself.

We are looking for someone who is comfortable balancing strategic thinking with hands-on execution and technical accounting. The key responsibilities for this role are outlined below.

Accounting Fulfillment, Team Leadership, & Quality Control

  • Manage a team of 1-3 accountants including team mentorship and training
  • Own the end-to-end accounting workflow, including delegation and workload management of junior accountants to ensure timely, accurate delivery of monthly financial statements
  • Lead execution of complex or high-impact work (e.g., cleanups, custom reporting, technical issues)
  • Provide guidance to junior team and serve as primary escalation point for accounting questions
  • Oversee preparation and review of business and personal tax return filing

Client Ownership, Advisory, & Relationship Management

  • Own relationship and serve as primary point of contact for your clients
  • Manage client expectations, timelines, and deliverables
  • Communicate with clients on monthly basis to provide financial statements, reports, and strategic advice
  • Own onboarding of new clients including identifying issues in financials & developing cleanup strategy
  • Lead proactive tax planning and projections for clients
  • Build specialized expertise in home services accounting & field service management software to provide industry-specific guidance to clients

Process & Operations Improvement

  • Identify process improvements and workflow efficiencies across accounting processes
  • Support development of scalable accounting systems

Qualifications

  • Has 5-7+ years of full-cycle accounting experience
  • 2-3 years of daily experience in QuickBooks Online
  • High proficiency in navigating software integrations and data mgmt. across systems (e.g., accounting software + invoicing, CRM, payroll)
  • Client relationship management for 2-3+ years
  • Experience training & managing junior accountants including reviewing work for accuracy and helping with technical questions
  • Has worked in a controller or financial audit environment
  • Experience working with small or medium sized businesses ($1M – $50M USD annual revenue)
  • US tax preparation and review experience preferred (1040,1120-s,1065)

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base pay between $95,000 and $135,000 (varies based on experience & skillset)

Pay: $95,000.00 - $135,000.00 per year
