Job Purpose
The Director of Compounding Pharmacy is responsible to establish and manage a compounding pharmacy service for clients of IHLAD. The compounding pharmacy will prepare personalized medications, supplements and other products according to physician prescriptions or recommendations, ensuring precise dosages and formulations for each patient. This role plays a critical part in supporting IHLADs personalized and preventive approach to healthcare and longevity medicine by aligning pharmaceutical care with advanced diagnostics and individualized treatment plans.
Key Responsibilities
Service Establishment
Work with the IHLAD facilities team and consultants to design a compounding pharmacy within the designated property.
Prepare schedules of all required equipment for the service
Develop SOPs for the service
Commission the compounding service once the department has been created.
Prepare a staffing plan and preliminary budget in conjunction with the IHLAD HR and Finance Departments
Compounding and Dispensing
Prepare customized medications (e.g., creams, capsules, injectables, troches, suppositories) based on individual requirements.
Ensure all compounded products meet appropriate stability, potency, and sterility requirements.
Follow aseptic techniques and safety standards during the preparation and labeling of compounds.
Quality Control and Documentation
Maintain accurate compounding records, formulas, and patient-specific formulations.
Perform quality checks on raw materials and finished compounds to ensure compliance with pharmacy regulations.
Ensure traceability and documentation of batch records and preparation logs.
Clinical Collaboration and Patient Safety
Work closely with physicians and clinical teams to design customized treatment plans.
Provide guidance on dosage, administration, and potential interactions of compounded medications.
Counsel patients on the correct use and storage of medications, when required.
Inventory and Equipment Management
Maintain stock of pharmaceutical ingredients, compounds, and sterile supplies.
Ensure calibration, maintenance, and cleanliness of all compounding equipment and lab areas.
Manage expiry checks and disposal of outdated or unusable substances in accordance with UAE regulations.
Compliance and Regulatory Standards
Ensure adherence to UAE Department of Health (DoH) and international compounding standards (e.g., USP , , and ).
Participate in internal and external audits, and implement corrective actions when necessary.
Maintain awareness of regulatory updates and best practices in pharmaceutical compounding.
Staff Management
Supervise all departmental staff working within the Compounding Pharmacy
Ensure all staff comply with all necessary regulations, SOPs and IHLAD policies
Conduct staff appraisals in accordance with IHLAD policies and ensure personal development plans are prepared for each staff member
Ensure staff conduct themselves at all times to maintain and enhance the reputation of IHLAD.
Governance & Compliance

Adhere to all applicable UAE DoH and MoHAP regulations, pharmaceutical laws, and internal SOPs.

Ensure strict compliance with quality and safety standards related to compounding and dispensing.

Report adverse events, medication errors, or safety concerns in line with regulatory guidelines.

Qualifications And Experience

Bachelors degree in Pharmacy (BPharm) or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD); Masters preferred.

Valid UAE Pharmacist License from the Department of Health - Abu Dhabi.

Minimum 5 years pharmacy practice experience in the UAE.

Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a compounding pharmacy setting.

Minimum 2 yrs experience is a senior leadership role in Pharmacy e.g. departmental head.

Specialized training or certification in pharmaceutical compounding is highly desirable.

Experience in a healthcare or longevity-focused environment is a plus.
Working Conditions

Based in Abu Dhabi with duties performed primarily in a cleanroom/laboratory compounding environment.

May involve standing for long periods and working with hazardous materials under controlled conditions.

Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to support patient needs or clinic operations.
