Director of Design - Office space

Purpose

The purpose of the Director of Design role is to provide leadership, structure, and direction for the Design and Project Management Teams. This position ensures that all design-related processes, workflows, and communications operate efficiently to support sales, enhance the customer experience, and maintain ROF’s standards of quality. The Director of Design is responsible for driving consistency in design practices, fostering strong vendor relationships, supporting the sales team with design and space-planning expertise, and promoting a collaborative, organized, and service-focused environment across departments.

MAIN DUTIES

  • Supervise the Design and Project Management Teams.
  • Support and assist the Sales Team in accomplishing client objectives.
  • Organize and standardize the processes and procedures needed to maintain a smooth workflow.
  • Establish metrics and performance measures for the Design and Project Management Teams.
  • Assist and support the lead salesperson with design, space planning and PM work as needed.
  • Coordinate effective communication between the Design and Project Management Teams.
  • Standardize the use and application of AutoCad.
  • Establish and maintain productive relationships with vendors.
  • Organize and maintain our sample library.
  • Organize and maintain our furniture binder library.
  • Schedule Vendor/Rep presentations.
  • Meet with sales associates and customers as needed to formulate the design plan and selection of customer furniture and finishes along with space planning.
  • Create presentation boards and/or furniture presentation pages for customer meetings.
  • Order samples.
  • Work with Project Coordinators on customer orders.
  • Render design ideas in the form of CAD drawings.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

· Follow and adhere to all company policies and alert any violations by others to management immediately.

· All conduct and work will be performed according to company policies and standards with utmost integrity and honesty.

· All proprietary company information will be held as strictly confidential outside of the company.

· Immediate Manager will be notified of any issue that cannot be resolved or deadlines that cannot be met.

· All dealings with all people that you encounter while wearing an ROF uniform and on company time will be dealt with in a respectful, cooperative, non-confrontational and professional manner.

· Always maintain a team attitude helping out as needed and where needed.

Qualifications:

  • BA in Interior Design
  • 5+ years experience in Commercial Interior Design
  • 3+ years commercial office furniture design
  • AutoCAD and CET Experience
  • Herman Miller and Steelcase Experience
  • 3+ years supervisory

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working at a computer or reviewing design materials.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, or move up to 25 pounds occasionally (samples, binders, finish materials, small furniture pieces).
  • Ability to bend, reach, kneel, or climb a step stool when organizing or retrieving items from the sample library or storage areas.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity to operate computers, software programs (AutoCAD, design tools), printers, and other office equipment.
  • Ability to visually inspect drawings, plans, color samples, and finish materials with clarity and accuracy.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly in person, over the phone, and during presentations to clients and internal teams.
  • Ability to travel locally as needed for vendor meetings, customer appointments, or site visits.
  • Must be able to navigate showroom or project sites, which may involve walking, standing, or moving through varying environments.
