POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. As the Director of Education Programs, you will report to the Senior Director of Youth Development and provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for our Afterschool, Summer Day Camp, Early Learning and Child Watch programs. This leadership role is responsible for the aggressive growth of our youth services, ensuring all programs meet or exceed Connecticut Office of Early Childhood (OEC) licensing standards, and expanding access to quality care for underserved children and families in our community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop and monitor program budget revenue and expenses for after school programs, summer camps, Early Learning, and Child Watch programs to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Drive aggressive growth and expansion of after school programs, summer camps, Early Learning, and Child Watch programs to increase enrollment, reach, and impact within the community.
  • Spearhead the design of a dynamic, evidence-based curriculum framework across all youth programs that fosters a continuum of learning. The primary goal is to ensure every child is prepared for their next educational milestone by building key academic, social, and emotional skills in direct alignment with Connecticut state standards (CT ELDS) and Greenwich Public Schools.
  • Supervise and administer all aspects of the after school programs, summer camps, Early Learning, and Child Watch programs, including staff recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling, supervision, and evaluation; enrollment registration; community and parent relations; marketing; and budget planning and management.
  • Manage the strategic partnership with the Greenwich School District on all matters concerning youth and educational programs.
  • Ensure program compliance with the Office of Early Childhood (OEC) and oversee the issuance of licenses and all issues of program logistics for after school programs, summer camps, Early Learning, and Child Watch.
  • Support and actively participate in implementing the organization’s strategic priorities with aspects of the strategic plan that directly affect or involve after school programs, summer camps, Early Learning, and Child Watch, and support other departments with implementation of the strategic plan when not related to these programs, but is otherwise feasible.
  • Hold routine staff meetings and training for after school programs, summer camps, Early Learning, and Child Watch with other Program Directors and/or independently.
  • Maintain close working relationships with school superintendents, principals, and administrations.
  • Engage in outreach efforts to obtain new partners for after school programs, summer camps, and Early Learning, including attendance at school board meetings for prospective districts, as needed.
  • Develop and maintain a functional parent packet and staff manual. Review and evaluate staff performance and develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Develop and maintain a culture and emphasis on best in class customer service with the staff. Respond to user, parent, and/or customer complaints, questions, issues, or inquiries promptly.
  • Assess programs for risk and loss management issues and meet all licensing guidelines for reporting.
  • Partner with the Development Department to support all grant and fundraising needs for youth programs, which includes providing essential programmatic data, collecting participant testimonials, and assisting with all required reporting items for funders.
  • All other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited College or University in Elementary Education or related discipline.
    Minimum of 3 years of experience in camp and childcare program management.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
  • Experience in program/curriculum development, and ability to guide and direct staff to provide a day camp and school-age program that positively develops the whole child; socially, cognitively, physically, and emotionally.
  • Possess, or be able to obtain, Head Teacher and Director Certification from CT Office of Early Childhood.
  • Knowledge of Office of Early Childhood (OEC) State Licensing regulations and requirements.
  • Documentation of a physical examination and a negative TINE test is mandatory
  • Maintain valid Red Cross CPR/First Aid certifications and Medication/Epi-pen trainings.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
