We are seeking a strategic and accomplished Director of Human Resources to join one of our subsidiaries, a leading Mechanical Contractor in the mid-Atlantic region. This role will provide HR leadership and partnership to a team of more than 250 highly skilled field and office professionals who are committed to delivering excellence across every project.
Responsibilities

Develop and execute a strategic employment strategy as it relates to recruiting, interviewing, hiring, retention, and succession planning.

Serve as a trusted advisor for company leadership by providing direction and guidance on human resources policies and procedures.

Manage and execute tasks associated with complex, sensitive questions and issues in accordance with company policy, etc.

Manage and facilitate tasks associated with new hire onboarding, employee relations, communications, benefits, leave of absence administration, workers' compensation, unemployment, wellness, company events, and apprenticeship programs.

Provide timely assistance and accurate information to employees regarding work-related inquiries, including benefits, disability leave of absence, etc.

Government reporting and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and laws in all matters pertaining to human resources.

Responsible for providing company-wide leadership to achieve equal employment opportunity in every aspect of employment.

Partner with the Safety Officer to promote a safety culture and support safety policies and procedures.

Provide support, guidance, and development to the Human Resources staff.

Practice and promote teamwork, collaboration, and a positive company culture at all times.

Attend employee disciplinary meetings when requested.

Oversee substance abuse testing program for post-hire, random (DOT, Non-DOT, RSPA-PHMSA), post-accident, and reasonable suspicion.

Manage and respond to unemployment claims, attend hearings.

Maintain knowledge of human resources trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, business administration, or a related field is highly preferred

Must have a minimum of ten years of human resources experience in a professional office, including mentoring rising leaders

Strong professional documentation and writing skills required

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate and build/maintain professional relationships

Must always maintain complete confidentiality and exercise discretion and independent judgment

Always maintain a positive and upbeat attitude and help drive positive team morale

Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines

Must act with honesty and integrity in all business dealings

Detail-orientated with strong organizational and analytical abilities

Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously

Must have a valid driver's license and be able to operate a vehicle to travel occasionally to off-site locations

Strong knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with the ability to learn HR software programs

Technology skills - proven capabilities using tools like AI, spreadsheets, and data analytics, as well as being comfortable learning new technology

Ability to read, write, and converse in fluent Spanish is desirable but not required
