Title: Director of Human Resources
Report to: Chief Operating Officer
Status: Full-Time/Exempt
Compensation: $105,000 - $115,000/ Annually
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, Minimum of 1 -2 days remote option available.
Office Location: New York, NY 10017

Since its beginning in 2002, HousingPlus has worked to address the lack of housing and services for women who have historically been underserved and marginalized, especially women impacted by the criminal justice system, and for the past 10 years, also female Veterans. Position Summary:
HousingPlus is hiring a Director of Human Resource to join our growing company. The Director of Human Resource is responsible for designing and implementing HR policies, fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations. The Director of Human Resource must demonstrate strong leadership and execution of human resource functions. The role is very strategic, requiring a blend of passion, skills and commitment to the successful implementation and execution of HR functions, with the ability to manage and provide oversight to HR Generalist.
Competencies/ Skills:
Strategic Leadership: The Director of Human Resource must demonstrate the ability to align HR strategy with the organization mission and long-term goals, firm in decision making and a critical thinker. Experienced in advising executive leadership to influence organizational direction.
People & Culture Development: Skilled in fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and mission driven workplace culture, with experience leading diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) initiatives. Demonstrated ability to develop staff engagement strategies and improve organizational climate.
Talent Management: Provide leadership and guidance in recruitment, onboarding, workforce planning, and retention strategies. Knowledgeable of performance management frameworks suitable for non-profit, and the ability to design leadership development and training programs and/or departments.
Employee Relations: Must possess strong conflict resolution and mediation abilities, with the ability to coach managers and handle sensitive HR cases with discretion and in a timely manner. The candidate must possess emotional intelligence and strong interpersonal communication skills.
Compliance & Risk Management: The candidate must know federal, state, and local employment laws. Expertise and experience in developing compliant HR policies, handbooks, and procedures, and experience with risk mitigation, workplace investigations, and HR audits.
Operational Excellence: The candidate must be a forward thinker, understanding the need to and possess skills in optimizing HR processes, systems, and databases. Must have experience working with HRIS platforms, payroll systems, and benefits administration, and be strong in organizational and project management skills.
Financial & Analytical Skills: The candidate must have the ability to build and manage HR budgets, working with the Finance Department to align with the budget. Knowledge of compensation design, salary benchmarking, and total rewards, and skills in Skilled in analyzing HR metrics, workforce data, and reporting trends to leadership.
Communication & Relationship Building: Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders, board members, staff, and external partners. Candidate must possess experience and skill in change management and leading organization-wide initiatives.
Additional Skills: Experience in multi-site or remote workforce management, grant compliance awareness – especially HR related to city, state, and government contracts, and understanding non-profit governance and senior-level interactions. Cultural competence and sensitivity working with diverse communities, with the adaptability and resourcefulness in environments with limited resources.
