The Director of Resident Care is responsible for the overall supervision, provision, and quality of nursing and supportive services in Assisted Living and Memory Care. Responsible for the selection, training, discipline and supervision for all nursing related personnel. Responsible for the procurement of appropriate supplies and equipment and operating within the departmental budget. Responsible for ensuring all residents receive exemplary care and favorable outcomes through the solid execution of daily quality standards. Responsible for the occupancy health of the community by working as a credible and collaborative member of the sales team alongside the Executive Director, Director of Sales, and others.

Tasks may include, but are not limited to the following:

1. Responsible for the development, organization and operation of nursing and supportive services for Assisted Living and Memory Care.

2. Responsible for the coordination and monitoring of nursing and supportive services for all residents including the procurement of outside sources to ensure that residents’ needs are met. Communicates and meets with outside consultants as necessary to assess and make recommendations for resident care needs.

3. Responsible for the coordination and direction of the total planning for nursing and supportive services including recommendation through a staffing plan, to be approved by the Executive Director, for the number and levels of nursing staff to be employed.

4. Responsible for coordination and monitoring of documentation which reflects wellness care provided, individual’s response to care and disposition of each case.

5. Coordinate with the Food Service Director to ensure that all residents receive diets prescribed by the physician.

6. Selects, trains, evaluates, disciplines all nursing related personnel. In cooperation with the Business Office Manager, ensures that all direct care staff stay compliant with state required continuing education, training topics, and regular inservices.

7. Responsible for developing and maintaining the assignments of duties for all nursing and supportive services to assure 24-hour coverage sufficient to meet regulatory requirements and community standards of care.

8. Develops and participates in a new staff orientation program.

9. Oversees completion of written orientation and annual evaluations of all nursing related personnel.

10. In coordination with Business Office Manager, establishes procedures to ensure that nursing related personnel have valid and current licenses as required by regulations.

11. Participates in the coordination nursing and supportive services through departmental staff meetings. Attends, prepares and analyzes necessary information for the annual policy review.

12. Coordinates required and supplemental in-service education programs appropriate for nursing related personnel. Utilizes vendors, consultants and the medical community as appropriate.

13. Maintains clinical skills and stays knowledgeable of current standards of nursing practice through nursing education related to geriatrics.

14. Ensures that significant clinical developments of residents are reported to their families and/or responsible party, physicians, Executive Director and State, as necessary.

15. Maintains on going communication with physicians, families and appropriate staff regarding resident status.

16. Oversees the care plan development for residents. Conducts pre-admission orientation including initial assessment of the resident. Evaluates the physical, emotional and/or social needs for supervision as needed. Insures appropriate level of care for all new and existing residents in the community. Assist and stimulates residents to participate in social and creative activities at the community.

17. Assists residents and families by offering support in dealing emotionally with the aging process and illness.

18. Develops and maintains current schedules of care and chargeable services. Submits itemized resident charges to the Executive Director on a monthly basis. Fully utilizes the electronic health records program to manage resident care tracking and optimization.

19. Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements including corporate compliance and HIPAA Privacy Standards.

20. Maintains high visibility with residents and makes frequent tours of resident apartments to ensure quality of care on all shifts and the general safety of the community environment.

21. Attends social functions, as appropriate.

22. Assesses living and memory care environments and recommends adaptation to eliminate functional risks to moving freely around.

23. Oversees ordering of all nursing supplies and equipment for the department.

24. Serves “on call” on weekends and after normal working hours.

25. Serves as Manager on Duty on scheduled weekends.

26. Develops and maintains a statement of philosophy and standards of care along with policies and procedures that will implement these standards. This should include the coordination of nursing and supportive services.

27. Participates in planning an annual budget for department. Ensures monthly expenditures for department remain within budgeted allowances. Reviews monthly operating statement for accuracy and explains variances to budget.

28. Performs specific work duties and responsibilities assigned by Executive Director.

29. Possesses ability to communicate effectively with residents, families and staff. Must use sound judgment, works well under pressure and possesses strong organizational skills.

30. Utilizes approved vendors for purchasing needs as appropriate.

31. Maintains current knowledge and paperwork required to meet scope of practice and regulatory/company requirements as a licensed health practitioner.

32. Other duties as assigned.
