Director of Security

Friends University is seeking to fill the Director of Security position in Wichita Kansas.The Director of Security provides operational oversight for all campus security and public safety functions of the campus. Establish department goals, performance metrics, and multi-year operational plans. Monitors safety conditions for residence halls and other campus buildings; serve as an essential member of the Crisis Response Team (CRT). Coordinates with local law enforcement, fire, emergency medical services, and state/federal agencies. Provides and implement crime prevention, safety, and training programs. Serve as point of contact for video monitoring company. Ensure compliance with the Clery Act, Title IX (as it relates to security), and all applicable federal, state, and local laws; prepare with accuracy and report to the Department of Education the Annual Security Report (ASR) and Campus Crime Statistics.
Responsibilities
  • Direct and oversee day-to-day security operations including patrol services, access control, surveillance systems, and dispatch; investigate, document, and manage security incidents.
  • Supervise security personnel; schedules officers for all shifts and special events; and fills in or contract outside assistance for coverage when scheduled officers cannot work.
  • Develop, review, and enforce campus security policies and procedures; facilitate planned drills and emergency preparedness exercises.
  • Parking enforcement; barricade areas for special events.
  • Recruit and develop a professional security team; including annual training, conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching, and professional development opportunities.
  • Communicate with students, faculty and staff about security concerns; respond to emergencies and alarms.
  • Document and report all campus crime, fire and Title IX statistics to the federal government and any criminal incidents to the Wichita Police Department.
  • Critical Incident Management maintenance and administration.
  • Prepare and oversee security budget.
  • Maintain records and reporting systems in accordance with regulatory requirements.

Five years of experience Security, Law Enforcement, or Military experience preferred; Supervisory experience preferred
Must meet and maintain all applicable state, local, and institutional requirements to carry a firearm, including required licensing, background checks, and ongoing firearms proficiency qualification; CPR certification, a plus
Current City of Wichita Security Permit preferred or the ability to get one within 90 days of hire
Computer skills are necessary. Microsoft Office Suite.
Associate degree is required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Must pass a criminal background check and drug screening. Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Ability to stand or walk for extended periods. Work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Exposure to potentially hazardous situations that require a calm, professional response.
