Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The Director is a result‑oriented, strategic leader who brings a comprehensive, systemwide perspective to security operations across the library system. This role requires exceptional relationship‑building skills and the ability to establish and maintain trusted partnerships with a diverse range of customers, staff, and community stakeholders. The Director must exercise sound judgment and demonstrate a steadfast commitment to ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all. Additionally, the position demands proven experience in fostering a culture of professionalism, accountability, and excellence. The Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and consistently enforcing security policies and procedures that support seamless, systemwide execution.
Additional responsibilities include:

Identifies measurable goals and objectives that show impact and progress over time;

Develops strategic plans and updates accordingly; ensure staff have appropriate goals and objectives to achieve stated initiatives;

Analyzes incident reports to ensure correct coverage and identify trends that need further investigation or training; shares results and recommended courses of action with CXT or LET as appropriate;

Establishes departmental metrics and standards of performance; conducting regular audits to ensure a consistently safe and secure environment across the system:

Partners with teams across the entire company to identify and deliver shared outcomes that measurably improve secure behavior across the organization;

Provides regular reports identifying actionable items for continuous improvement to be distributed to operations and leadership;

Evaluates and provide recommendations to close security gaps and vulnerabilities with a heavy emphasis on incident avoidance versus reaction;

Ensures that operations are consistent with industry best practices and that the security strategy is aligned with the business needs of the library;

Conducts appropriate investigations and after incident debriefs and report findings to leadership;

Oversees incident response and assists with protocol adjustments and legal matters associated with security breaches as necessary;

Ensures security teams understand and leverage continuous improvement methods, especially as related to training and technology;

Ensures timely and thorough communication with managers at all levels, especially those who utilize security staff at their locations; travels to each physical location to understand security needs first-hand, and mentor team members;

Demonstrates exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex security information clearly, professionally, and in a manner appropriate for diverse audiences.

Communicates with diplomacy and confidence while building trust with staff, customers, community partners, and law enforcement agencies.

Audits the department’s webpage to ensure accuracy and consistency with related forms, policies, and procedures.

Maintains strong relationships with federal, state, tribal and local law enforcement to keep abreast of emerging risks and related vulnerabilities;

Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner; proactively assessing threats and timely notifying leadership;

Qualifications

Strong interpersonal, and communication skills, both verbal and written;

Demonstrates initiative, good judgement, and commitment for results;

High level of situational awareness and quick response time in addressing critical situations;

Forward thinking and self-directed with the ability to provide insightful observations and recommendations to challenges;

Good time management and problem-solving skills as well as strong attention to detail;

Intermediate level experience in Microsoft Office 365, Excel, Word, PPT and other job-related programs;

Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends.

Proven ability to understand and provide ideas for improving various forms of technology that impact security role and safety of customers and staff.
Education & Experience
-
College degree in law enforcement or related field;
-
Seven or more years of security experience in a public setting;
-
Five or more years of supervisory experience in increasingly challenging roles;
-
CLEET certification;
-
Thorough knowledge of library, city, county and other applicable and relevant rules, policies, procedures, regulations and laws;

Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
-
Ability to respond appropriately in stressful and potentially dangerous situations which may involve unruly, disruptive or intoxicated customers;

Valid OK driver’s license;
Physical Activity & Environmental Conditions

Work routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items, such as equipment, boxes (up to 40 pounds) and/or very long periods of walking on a routine basis, and/or standing for long periods of time and/or frequently requires stooping and bending.

There are no major sources of discomfort; work is essentially conducted in a normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions.
