Director of Transportation

DESCRIPTION:

The Director of Transportation provides leadership and supervision to various functions of the School System including but not limited to the transportation department. The Director will be expected to work as part of a team, provide information and serve as a resource to the School System, ensuring the System meets its mission and goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervise the school system transportation program
  • Provide information on and take part in analyzing road conditions to make determination on school closings
  • Address concerns from the schools, community, and staff in a timely manner
  • Assist in planning and implementing budgets for the Transportation Department
  • Promote and maintain a positive work environment.
  • Serve as the school system's representative with various committees, agencies, and conferences as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of System Services
  • Assist in the bid process of purchasing buses and/or supplies pertaining to the Transportation Department
  • Assume administrative responsibilities for routine duties of the Transportation Department, including payroll reports, vacation schedules, monthly reports, inventory, and annual reports
  • Support the Assistant Superintendent of System Services in overall administrative efforts of the school system and keeps them informed of pertinent developments and events
  • Coordinate training programs for transportation personnel
  • Provide monthly maintenance report to the Assistant Superintendent of System Services
  • Oversee the recruitment, hiring, and training of district school bus drivers and supervise mini-bus drivers
  • Collaborate with Principals in supervision of bus drivers
  • Supervise modification and monitoring of bus routes and schedules to maintain safe and efficient transportation of students.
  • Work in cooperation with bus drivers and school administrators
  • Review and approve transportation timesheets and work schedules.
  • Monitors certification for assigned staff.
Perform other related duties as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Two-year degree or higher, or

  • Equivalent certification in a related field from accredited organization or
  • Transportation supervisor experience or equivalent.

2. Must hold valid Alabama Bus Drivers Certification or obtain certification no later than the first opportunity provided by Madison County Schools.

Duty Days: 240

Salary Range: According to Madison County Schools Salary Schedule.
