The Dispatch Supervisor plays a critical role in the daily operations and overall success of the Transportation Department. This role is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the dispatch of truck drivers, equipment, and personnel to ensure efficient project support, timely deliveries, and effective material movement across all job sites.
The Dispatch Supervisor serves as the primary coordination point for incoming service requests and work orders related to trucking and logistics operations. This position maintains real-time visibility of driver activity, equipment utilization, and project needs while prioritizing assignments to align with company priorities, safety expectations, and operational efficiency.
Success in this role requires exceptional organization, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. The ideal Dispatch Supervisor builds strong working relationships with customers, Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, and the Maintenance team while proactively identifying and resolving logistical challenges. This individual is a resourceful problem solver who approaches complex operational needs with creativity, sound judgment, and a commitment to supporting safe, efficient field operations.
COMPENSATION
$78,600.00 to $122,400.00 annually
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works as a member of management to optimize fleet utilization, driver schedules and project pick-up and deliveries.
- Proactively identifies and alerts potential delivery and pick-up problems before they result in service issues.
- Handles and issues corrective action in accordance with company guidelines to address necessary driver behaviors and issues.
- Reviews equipment, personnel and allocation needs in accordance with the most crucial and pressing priorities of the company daily.
- Creates and updates driver schedules as needed to meet internal or external customer needs with our company’s priorities, values, and profitability in mind.
- Reviews driver hours daily and makes necessary changes to maximize straight time utilization and control overtime spend in the department.
- Reviews and processes weekly payroll in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Receives, prepares, uploads, and updates work orders in transportation systems and relays work orders, messages and information from project crews to drivers.
- Coordinates and manages load efficiencies to maximize cost as well as subcontractor needs.
- Maintains and monitors driver logs and working hours.
- Maintains project records and document information, including job numbers and scopes of driver assignments, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Utilizes Continuous Improvement methodology to improve internal processes, including technical systems, related to the department.
- Has broad understanding of Colorado highways and roads to determine most efficient routes, equipment movement limitations and weight restrictions.
- Checking primary email on a regular basis for any communication from the company, as this is the company’s primary mode of communication
QUALIFICATIONS
- Superior communication and interpersonal skills to effectively and professionally interact with employees, customers, and vendors via email, telephone, in person interactions, or any other device provided by the Company.
- Sophisticated technological skills to manage necessary business functions and information via e-mail, Samsara, Viewpoint, and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to independently perform due diligence and be self-directed with minimum supervision.
- Strong multitasking and prioritization skills and able to work effectively under stressful situations.
- Willingness to work flexible hours.
- Some knowledge of heavy equipment and construction operations.
- Extensive knowledge of DOT-FMCSA rules and regulations.
EXPERIENCE
- Required: A minimum of 3 to 5 years of dispatching and management experience.
- Preferred: Additional or specialized training in transportation, logistics, or similar areas of study and project management. Knowledge of Samsara or other dispatching or safety telemetric platforms. Knowledge of Electronic Log processes.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- This position requires the ability to communicate in English with co-workers, customers and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- This job requires the ability to do math equations and summaries for reviewing and reporting statistical and budgetary information.
COMPUTER SKILLS
- This job requires general computer knowledge; and requires knowledge in Microsoft Office
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Primary functions require the physical ability and mobility to work in an office and stand or sit for prolonged periods of time. Occasional bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry or push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of Weight. The position requires the operation of office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and verbally communicate to exchange information.
