GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Represent the Assemblywoman at meetings as needed - including community events, meetings about specific issues related to the district, etc.
- Meet (and prepare for meetings) with constituents in the district office or outside the district office.
- Oversee & maintain constituent services, assist staff with constituent services and escalated cases.
- Draft correspondence to constituents and provide assistance to them in navigating government agencies.
- Act as a secondary liaison between the Albany office staff and District office staff.
- Become familiar with and advise the Assemblywoman on pending community events - double check her calendar for missing and/or recurring community events within the district and add any that are not already listed.
- Oversee and organize constituent files and maintain tracking system through CRM
- Act as liaison with specific community groups, community leaders, etc.
- Allocate certain work assignments; such as in-office tasks, dividing up constituent casework, etc.
- Oversee planning of the Assemblywoman’s annual events and take the lead as necessary
- Produce typewritten/word processed documents and participate in editing shared Google documents.
- Receive office visitors; receive and place phone calls.
- Xerox, collate and file correspondence, documents, etc.
- Write/ draft, edit and review correspondence, newsletters, memorandums, letters, and other mailings.
- Read and clip newspapers and periodicals; and inform Assemblywoman or appropriate staff on pertinent information.
- Prepare press releases and press/media informational packets, which may include newsletter layout and use of graphic arts.
- Attend community events with the Assemblywoman and/ or represent her at events.
- Local travel as necessary.
- PERFORMS SUCH OTHER DUTIES AS ARE NECESSARY TO THE PROPER OPERATION OF THIS OFFICE.
The ideal person applying for this job would:
- Be a good writer, communicator, and listener.
- Be able to work as a team, listen to guidance, and be willing to learn from more experienced staff.
- Be able to act/ work autonomously and with the appropriate level of urgency required
- Be prepared to work some nights and weekends as needed
- Have the ability to read fully through correspondence and discern necessary actions.
- Be able to handle senior level staff responsibilities and take initiative.
- Understand the importance of constituent services and being proactive
- Be up to date and informed on the current events and happenings of the assembly district
- Be prepared to work in person in the district office 5 days a week
* Previous government office experience is a plus!
* Previous event planning and coordinating experience is a plus!
Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
