JOB DESCRIPTION

The Divorce Hearing Officer presides over and makes recommendations concerning divorce and alimony, including pre-trial matters, counsel fees and equitable distribution. This position is governed by the Code of Judicial Conduct. The main objective is to provide a resolution to cases prior to intervention by the Court of Common Pleas. The Hearing Officer often listens to complex testimony, such as competing business valuations as well as vocational experts, and has to make a recommendation to the court based upon the evidence presented. This position presides over and decides pre-hearing issues including discovery motions, petitions for special relief, interim counsel fees and related pre-trial matters in divorce cases. Researches and writes equitable distribution reports and recommendations. Conducts pre-hearing settlement conferences with counsel and litigants. Corresponds and schedules matters. Communicates with judges, lawyers, pro se litigants, and court staff as necessary. Attends meetings with the Family Court Judges, as requested.

Juris Doctor Degree with a minimum of six (6) years of family law experience. Must be a member of the Pennsylvania Bar. A minimum of six (6) years of family law experience OR any equivalent combination of education, training, or experience.


This is a non-union position. The starting hourly rate is $34.88; $72,550.40 annually. This office is located at 25 S. Front Street, Harrisburg, PA.

A favorable criminal background check is required.
