Find The RightJob.

Position OverviewWe are seeking a reliable, experienced, and dog-savvy individual to provide in-home care for our two German Shepherds while we are away on trips. The role involves staying at our home to ensure our dogs remain happy, healthy, secure, and well-exercised. The full time housekeeper and property manager will be on property during the week and can look after the dogs during the day.

German Shepherds are intelligent, energetic, working-breed dogs that thrive on routine, mental stimulation, and plenty of physical activity — this is not a low-energy sitting job.

Key Responsibilities

  • Feed the dogs daily according to our detailed instructions
  • Provide fresh water at all times and monitor hydration.
  • Take the dogs for multiple walks/exercise sessions each day (typically 2–3 outings, totaling at least 45- 60 minutes of activity per dog, including walks, playtime, fetch, or training games).
  • Grooming basics as needed (brushing to manage shedding, checking for mats, occasional nail checks).
  • Administer any medications or supplements if required.
  • Monitor health and behavior closely — report any changes, concerns, vomiting, diarrhea, limping, lethargy, or unusual signs immediately via text/call.
  • Maintain the dogs' routine as closely as possible to minimize stress.
  • Provide lots of love, attention, and companionship — these are people-oriented dogs who do best with interaction.

Schedule & Commitment

  • Flexible based on our travel (typically 3–14 days at a time, occasional longer trips).
  • For trips: live-in (stay overnight in our home)
  • Availability for occasional last-minute or recurring travel dates is a plus.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Proven experience caring for large, strong, high-energy breeds (German Shepherds, Malinois, Rottweilers, etc. — references required).
  • Comfortable and confident handling two 70–90+ lb German Shepherds on leash and during play
  • Strong understanding of positive reinforcement training and German Shepherd temperament (protective, loyal, intelligent, need leadership).
  • Physically fit and able to handle long walks, running/play, and lifting food bags if needed.
  • Comfortable staying alone in a home and following basic house security protocols.
  • Excellent communication skills — daily photo/text updates are expected.
  • Pet first aid/CPR certification is a big plus (but not required).
  • Non-smoker preferred (due to dogs' sensitive noses).
  • Must provide 2–3 references from previous pet sits (especially large breeds).
  • Love for dogs and patience with shedding (GSDs shed a lot!).

Compensation: Competitive pay based on experience, trip length, and whether live-in or drop-in visits (we'll discuss rates). Paid via [Venmo/PayPal/check/etc.].

If you're responsible, trustworthy, genuinely enjoy working with big, smart dogs, and can keep two German Shepherds happy and tired, we'd love to hear from you! Please reply with your experience with similar breeds, availability, and any questions.
