Dog Walker and Driver

About Top Dog SF

Since 2004, Top Dog SF has been San Francisco's most trusted dog training and walking company. We specialize in positive-reinforcement training, puppy programs, and off-leash dog walking adventures at our private, secure ranch in Montara, CA. We're a 5-star-rated, award-winning team built on safety, compassion, and a genuine love for dogs.

We don't just walk dogs — we care for them like our own.

The Role
We're looking for a calm, dependable, dog-savvy Off-Leash Walker & Driver to join our pack. This is a physically active, outdoor role built around a consistent daily routine — perfect for someone who thrives on structure, reads dogs instinctively, and takes pride in delivering exceptional care every single day.

If you're the kind of person dogs naturally trust — and you're looking for a long-term career with a path toward training — this is your place.

What You'll Do

Dog Care & Safety

  • Read dog body language and respond quickly and calmly to behavioral cues
  • Make sound, instinctive decisions in dynamic situations involving multiple dogs
  • Follow all safety protocols and handling guidelines with consistency and care

Daily Operations

  • Drive company vans to safely pick up and drop off dogs along established SF routes
  • Supervise off-leash play and socialization groups at our Montara ranch
  • Work alongside trainers, ranch assistants, and fellow walkers as a collaborative team

Client Communication

  • Send daily photo updates and brief reports through our mobile app
  • Maintain warm, professional interactions with clients during pickups and drop-offs

Vehicle & Equipment

  • Keep company vans clean, organized, and road-ready
  • Report any maintenance or safety concerns promptly

Professional Development

  • Complete Dog Walker University certification
  • Obtain and maintain Pet CPR and First Aid certification
  • Participate in ongoing training in canine behavior and handling

You're a Great Fit If You:

  • Have a naturally calm, steady presence — dogs feel safe with you
  • Read dog behavior intuitively and adapt quickly without overthinking
  • Thrive in a consistent daily routine and take pride in showing up reliably
  • Follow safety protocols without being reminded — because you genuinely care
  • Work well as part of a team and communicate clearly with colleagues and clients
  • Are curious about canine behavior and excited about growing toward a training role

This Role Isn't For You If:

  • Driving a van in San Francisco traffic feels uncomfortable
  • Large groups of dogs feel overwhelming or stressful
  • You prefer spontaneity and variety over a predictable daily routine
  • Outdoor physical work in all weather conditions isn't your thing
  • You need to be in charge — this role is about exceptional execution, not directing others

Requirements

  • Valid California Driver's License (Class C) with a clean driving record
  • 5+ years of city driving experience preferred
  • Comfortable managing groups of up to 15 dogs with assistant support
  • Ability to lift up to 70 lbs and work outdoors year-round
  • Smartphone (iOS or Android) for daily communication and reporting

Schedule & Pay

  • Monday–Friday | 7:30 AM–2:30 PM or 8:30 AM–3:30 PM
  • Starting at $22/hour based on experience
  • Full-time (35–40 hrs/week) or Part-time (~20 hrs/week) available

Perks & Benefits (Full-Time)

  • 50% group health insurance or $100/month health stipend
  • 72 hours paid sick time
  • Paid holidays
  • $50/month cell phone reimbursement
  • Paid dog training certifications and continuing education
  • Clear path toward a dog trainer role for motivated candidates
  • Semi-Annual Reviews with raise and bonus potential
  • Employer-sponsored IRA
  • Company van provided — fuel and maintenance fully covered
