Driver / Coordinator

Avenidas Door-to-Door Driver & Coordinator Position

This position is a driver/coordinator position for the Door-to-Door Program. The position requires flexibility to drive when needed to meet the schedule and to work with the second coordinator to cover program administration. The hours are 9-5:30, M-F.

Driving – 50%

Safely and reliably transport clients to/from activities at three locations, to medical and other health-related appointments, to social outings, or to run errands. The role contributes to a program that enables older adults in the community to stay active, safe, engaged, and independent by providing rides and deliveries.

Coordinator – 50%

In this part of the position, the role oversees Avenidas’ Door to Door Transportation Program administratively, working with the morning coordinator, with flexibility to the morning coordinator when needed.

Essential Job Functions

· Handle daily operations of transportation and grocery delivery program.

· Communicate with volunteers, staff drivers, and clients

· Lyft: schedule and monitor rides; communicate with drivers, report issues to Lyft, pay invoices, and complete the monthly report for accounting.

· Volunteer Drivers: maintain all records for DMV pull program, proof of insurance, obtain and distribute handicap placards, train volunteer drivers, inspect cars, communicate monthly and daily calendars to volunteers

· Clients & family representatives: maintain client records in ActiveNet, handle the monthly billing cycle in QuickBooks, provide reminder calls to clients with cognitive issues, work with designated family members on scheduling, status of rides, billing, and issues of client decline.

· Provide monthly statistics for Door to Door to the manager for agency reporting.

· Work closely with other programs to ensure needs beyond transportation are met for clients to remain safely in their homes; communicate with social work staff on clients experiencing decline or needing additional resources.

· Drive clients for D2D and ARKC 20 hrs/week

· Use QuickBooks to enter client payments, run reports, and work with the finance team on projects when needed.

· Conduct satisfaction surveys with clients.

· Provide general information and outreach about D2D to prospective clients.

· Cover other shifts when the coordinator or drivers are out.

· Work on additional projects when needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Transportation

  • Drive company vehicle to transport passengers with specialized equipment, such as wheelchair ramps, to transport and secure passengers with special needs
  • Pick up and drop off clients on a regular schedule at prearranged locations
  • Provide passengers with assistance entering and exiting vehicles
  • Safely communicate with other D2D staff while driving, exchanging information and updates about passengers/schedules
  • Record ride information in logs, at pickup and drop-off

Safety and Vehicle Maintenance:

  • Follow safety regulations and state laws governing vehicle operation and ensure that passengers follow safety regulations.
  • Take extra precaution while driving in inclement weather
  • Perform routine vehicle maintenance such as regulating tire pressure and adding gasoline, oil, and water
  • Vacuum and clean interiors daily/weekly, depending on the state of the vehicle
  • Light washing of windows and spot areas of exterior daily/weekly
  • Take the vehicle for a car wash when needed
  • Take vehicles to the mechanic for preventative servicing or when issues arise
  • Regularly test vehicle equipment such as lights, brakes, horns, or windshield wipers, to ensure proper operation
  • Notify manager of vehicle issues
  • Complete incident reports when necessary

Qualifications

· At least five years’ experience in customer service or client relations.

· Must have a car, driver’s license, proof of insurance, a clean driving record, and flexibility to drive own car or Avenidas van.

· Experience working in transportation and with older adults in a social services/non-profit environment preferred.

· Passionate about exemplary customer service and will sincerely enjoy working with older adults, with the ability to handle difficult clients as well.

· Excellent communication skills, a collaborative work style, and strong tech skills to handle data, tracking, statistics, software, and apps, as needed.

Education and Experience

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience welcomed
  • High School diploma, GED
  • Proof of past safety training or willingness to complete safety training
  • Computer/Software/Technical Applications:
  • Ability to use a computer, smartphone, apps, and databases.

Communication:

  • Ability to speak and comprehend English, the primary language used in the workplace; ability to speak and/or comprehend other languages utilized by clients is a plus.
  • Email - Competent writing skills for customer relations with clients and colleagues

Required Licenses/ Certifications/ Background:

  • Position requires a clean CA driving record
  • CA Class C driver’s license
  • Adult CPR/First Aid certification
  • Safety training on wheelchairs and other specialized transport
  • Travel Required:
  • To and from where the company vehicle is parked

Physical Demands

In office

  • Frequently stand/walk, sit, use a computer, use a telephone, and grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
  • Occasionally reach/work above shoulders, twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp forcefully, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds, write by hand, sort/file paperwork.

Driving:

  • Work Environment: Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. The position requires flexibility to work nights, weekends, and some holidays, based on needs. Must be adaptable to changing schedules.
  • Equipment: Employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, and frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration.

Compensation

This is a full-time, non-exempt, 40-hour-per-week position.

The current pay range is $32.00- $ 34.00 per hour.
