Functional Responsibilities

· To cover all the IP in all the Wards / ICU / CCU etc.

· To cover duty in Casualty in the absence of Duty Orthopaedic Surgeon.

· To follow the NABH protocols and documentation.

· To go for rounds and introduce yourself to all the patients and indicate them your availability in a particular location and also the extension phone number of both the Doctors Station.

· The vital parameters must be recorded once in their duty time, but every 3 hours Doctors must visit the patients and note the findings as an observation without disturbing the patients.

· To identify the new admissions and to familiarize about the patient in full and complete.

· To assess all the IP under your care and complete all the works related to the IP care.

· To collect all the investigations pending and inform the concerned Consultants about the results.

· To do daily wound dressing and post-operative patients’ wound dressing must be done with the help of operating Surgeon only.

· To assess the general condition of the patient and to compile all the specialty prescriptions in one.

· Daily rounds must always contain the date, time of visit, detailed observation in regards to nutrition, general instructions on food intake by the patient and must know about the history of insomnia.

· To call all the outside Consultants personally before 7.00 am during the night duties.

· To write the case sheets whenever it is requested by the Ortho and other Consultants.

· To get consent for any procedure from vene puncture and intubation before doing the procedure.

· To receive the patients from Casualty whenever there is an admission and from OT/Cathlab after the surgery.

· To give a final brief to the patients in regards to all the follow up to be done by the patient at the time of discharge. This includes advice about medication, diet, physiotherapy and day to day activities at home like having a bath etc.

· To identify specific patients who may require extra care and to frequently visit them.

· To write the patient name, age and hospital ID all the time to follow the respective pattern while documenting (i) Chief Complaints, (ii) Past history-past family personal history, General & Systemic examination, Provisional Diagnosis etc.

· To note all the Lab Investigations, pick up the abnormal values and to document the same in the case sheet.

· The plan of care has to be discussed with the patient after getting the Consultants opinion.

· Proper handing over & taking over should be done at all times.
