About the Role
We’re seeking a skilled Editor to lead high-impact communications that inform, engage, and inspire Michigan’s legal community. This role blends strategic thinking with hands-on writing and editing, ensuring every piece of content—across print and digital—meets the highest standards of clarity, accuracy, and impact.

What You’ll Do

• Lead production of the Michigan Bar Journal, managing contributors, editing content, and delivering each issue on time
• Develop and execute strategic communications plans and messaging
• Write and edit content for web, email, marketing campaigns, and instructional materials
• Supervise and mentor a Communications Specialist and freelance contributors
• Manage workflows, deadlines, and content approvals across multiple projects
• Partner with design/brand teams to align messaging with visual standards
• Maintain editorial guidelines and ensure consistency across all communications
• Identify opportunities to improve engagement and communication effectiveness

What You Bring

• Exceptional writing and editing skills with a versatile voice
• Strong project management and organizational abilities
• Experience leading or supervising content teams
• 7+ years of relevant professional experience
• Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English, or related field
• Familiarity with project management tools (e.g., Asana) preferred
• Understanding of Michigan’s legal community, the mission of the State Bar of Michigan, and relevant legal precedents such as Keller and AO-2004-01
