JOB PURPOSE
Maintain and audit the EHSS systems to contribute to the maintenance of a safe working environment. Provide relevant training to employees to create awareness of EHSS standards.
KEY ACCOUNTABILTIES
Policies, Processes and Procedures
-
Implement and communicate EHS policies, processes & procedures, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

Conduct regular reviews of existing processes and procedures, recommending improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
Budgets
-
Monitor expenditures against budgeted amounts, identifying variances and implementing corrective actions as needed.

Evaluate cost-effective solutions for EHS improvements, considering long-term sustainability and return on investment.
Environment, Health and Safety (EHS)
-
Conduct routine inspections and audits of facilities, equipment, and work practices to identify hazards and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements

Implement corporate occupational health, safety, and environmental procedures & risk mitigation strategies to ensure safe operations and minimal environmental impact.

Provide guidance and support to operational teams in the implementation of corrective actions to address identified hazards and improve safety performance.
Continuous Improvement
-
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for process optimization, efficiency gains and integrate EHS requirements into business process and workflow to implement relevant improvements.

Foster a culture of continuous improvement by encouraging employee involvement in problem solving and innovation.

Benchmark against industry peers to identify leading practices and implement relevant improvements.

Monitor industry trends and emerging best practices in EHS and sustainability training, incorporating new approaches and methodologies to continuously improve training effectiveness.
Reports
-
Prepare timely and accurate comprehensive reports on EHS performance, including incident statistics, trends, and analysis of root causes when required.

Present findings to senior management and recommend strategies for improvement based on data driven insights
Risk Management
-
Conduct and assess comprehensive risk assessment to identify OH&S hazards & mitigation of risks through routine EHS inspections, Risk Assessments and Job Safety Analysis.

Conduct COSHH audits through risk assessment of materials classified as hazardous to health
-
Implement risk mitigation strategies, including engineering controls, administrative procedures, and personal protective equipment (PPE).

Monitor and review risk control measures regularly to ensure effectiveness and compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
-
Provide guidance and support to departmental managers and supervisors in addressing identified risks and implementing appropriate control measures.
Audit
-
Maintain and audit the site EHS management systems to facilitate compliance with required standards and coordinate with external auditors in their audits

Ensure health surveillance, workplace, and environment monitoring

Conduct periodic review of the EHS Risks Register and Environmental Aspects and Impacts Register

Promote and audit site 5S for a safe, efficient, and visual work environment
Incident Investigation and Employee Consultation
-
Investigate EHS incidents, including near misses, injuries, spills, and equipment failures and report it & utilize root cause analysis techniques to identify underlying factors contributing to incidents and develop recommendations to prevent recurrence.

Document investigation findings, including contributing factors, corrective actions, and lessons learned, and communicate them to relevant stakeholders.

Facilitate employee consultations and involvement in EHS and sustainability initiatives, including safety meetings, toolbox talks, and safety committees.
EHS Training

Assess training needs and assist in developing and conducting training programs and materials to address identified needs, incorporating best practices, regulatory requirements, and company policies to classify gaps in knowledge and skills related to EHS and sustainability

Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs through assessments, surveys, and feedback from participants, making adjustments as necessary to enhance learning outcomes.

Conduct safety meetings, toolbox talks, employee consultations & EHS awareness campaigns

Partner with internal subject matter experts and external training providers to deliver specialized training on specific topics or technologies relevant to EHSS and sustainability.
Emergency Response
-
Implement, review and maintain comprehensive emergency response plans and procedures to address potential emergencies, including but not limited to fires, chemical spills, natural disasters, medical emergencies, and security incidents to ensure they remain current and effective.

Organize and conduct emergency response drills and exercises to test the effectiveness of plans and procedures, identify areas for improvement, and familiarize employees with their roles and responsibilities during emergencies.

Assist with establishing communication protocols and systems to facilitate rapid and effective communication during emergencies with both internal & external stakeholders to ensure a coordinated response to emergencies, including the provision of mutual aid and support as needed.

Ensure emergency response equipment and supplies in a state of readiness, conducting regular inspections, testing, and maintenance to ensure operational readiness and compliance with regulatory requirements.
KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Essential:
Relevant Bachelor’s/ Diploma or Degree in Science or Engineering. Specialized training in EHS systems such as NEBOSH. Good knowledge of manufacturing processes
Desirable:
Knowledge of international best practice e.g., OSHA, NEBOSH, Lead auditor status must be obtained within 12 months of joining
