Electrical and Instrument Technician

Job Summary

The Electrical & Instrument Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing all electrical equipment, instrumentation, and control systems across the lube oil refinery, lubricant manufacturing plant, and sludge oil treatment facility. The role ensures safe and reliable operation of electrical distribution systems, motors, cabling, control panels, field instruments, VEGA level sensors, flow meters, and plant automation devices. The technician must support 24/7 plant emergencies and contribute to the continual improvement of maintenance practices, IMS documentation, and critical spare inventory management. SAP knowledge is an added advantage.

Key Responsibilities

Install, maintain, inspect, and repair LV electrical equipment, motors, MCC panels, power panels, control panels, lighting systems, and small power systems.

Perform cable laying, glanding, termination, insulation checks, IR tests, and continuity tests as per standards.

Troubleshoot motor faults, starter issues, VFD/soft starter problems, MCC tripping, power failures, and electrical breakdowns.

Ensure proper earthing, grounding, and bonding practices across all facilities.

Install, calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain instruments such as VEGA level sensors, flow meters, pressure transmitters, temperature sensors, control valves, solenoids, and field analysers.

Perform loop checking, signal testing (4–20mA), PLC/SCADA interface verification, and commissioning of instruments. Inspect and verify instrument signal cables, JB connections, and marshalling panel wiring.

Perform preventive, predictive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance on all electrical and instrumentation assets.

Carry out inspections, testing, functional verification, and problem diagnosis using standard tools and test instruments.

Assist engineers and supervisors during plant shutdowns, turnarounds, and emergency breakdowns to ensure smooth execution.

Follow LOTO, PTW, JSA, and all HSE requirements before executing any electrical or instrumentation job.

Ensure strict compliance with refinery safety standards and hazardous area classifications. Update maintenance reports, job cards, checklists, and work orders accurately in SAP (if applicable).

Maintain and update critical spare inventory for all electrical and instrumentation items.

Prepare inspection reports, calibration logs, and test records.

Education:

Diploma/ITI in Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering/Technology.

Experience:

Minimum 3–7 years of experience in refinery, petrochemical, industrial, or waste management plants.

Strong knowledge of motors, electrical systems, control panels, instrumentation devices, and troubleshooting tools.

Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, SLDs, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and instrument hookup drawings.

Experience with SAP PM module (advantage).
