Electrical Designer

Location: Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, and/or Madison

Position Type: In-Person/Full-Time

Position: As an Electrical Designer at Design Engineers, you are responsible for creating detailed electrical designs and plans for various projects. This role involves collaborating with engineers, architects, and other professionals to ensure that electrical systems are efficiently integrated into the overall project design. The Electrical Designer will develop electrical schematics, select appropriate materials, and ensure compliance with safety codes and regulations. The variety and complexity of the systems you work with means that no two days are the same, making your role both dynamic and rewarding. With a keen eye for detail and a thirst for problem-solving, you ensure electrical systems align with the unique specifications and requirements of local utilities. You enjoy collaborating with a variety of teams, from engineers to other technical staff, to understand the project needs and ensure your designs meet their expectations and regulatory standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create detailed electrical designs, schematics, and diagrams busing CAD software
  • Develop and specify electrical components and systems, including lighting, power distribution, and control systems.
  • Ensure designs meet project specifications, safety standards, and applicable codes and regulations.
  • Coordinate layouts with all building disciplines
  • Direct the work of BIM Technicians as appropriate
  • Work with the project team to meet deadlines

Skills and Abilities needed for the position:

  • Proactive, collaborative, tenacious and client-focused
  • Detailed knowledge of Revit MEP software
  • Knowledge of Navisworks a plus
  • Working knowledge of electrical codes
  • General understanding of industry terminology
  • Knowledge in the basics of fire suppression systems a plus
  • Strong interest in other disciplines to develop integrated design
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to understand and describe conceptual ideas verbally and in writing to co-workers
  • Energetic, highly motivated and self-directed with a strong work ethic
  • Voracious appetite for learning
  • Strong organizational skills

Education and Experience requirements:

  • Minimum of two-year associate degree in a related area
  • Four or more years of experience in electrical system design and BIM modeling
