Electrical Engineer

Job Purpose:
The Senior Electrical Engineer leads the design and coordination of electrical systems for healthcare, higher education, federal, government, and mixed-use facilities. This includes power distribution, lighting and lighting controls, fire alarm, and low-voltage infrastructure. The role supports all project phases from concept through construction and requires strong collaboration with other engineering and architectural disciplines.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution (Master's degree preferred).
  • 8+ years of electrical engineering experience, ideally within professional services firms.
  • Professional Engineering license or ability to obtain within 1–2 years.
  • Experience in healthcare, government, education, or institutional projects is a plus.
  • Proficiency in preparing detailed construction documentation and using Revit smart schedules
  • Experience with Veteran Affairs (VA) projects is a plus
Skills/Qualities:
  • Ability to work autonomously through project completion with minimal oversight
  • Proficient in Revit with strong experience using Design Master Electrical
  • Ability to use Design Master Electrical (preferred) or SKM PowerTools (ideal)
  • Strong understanding of NEC, NFPA 70, NFPA 72, and state building codes
  • Experience designing:
    • Normal and emergency power distribution
    • Switchboards, panelboards, feeders, transformers, grounding
    • Lighting systems and lighting controls
    • Fire alarm system layout and risers
    • Low-voltage pathways (IT, telecom, security, AV)
  • Ability to perform voltage drop, load, and fault current calculations
  • Knowledge of solar applications and renewable energy systems.
  • Experience coordinating with utility companies
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision
  • Healthcare, higher education, or federal design experience preferred

Responsibilities:
  • Lead electrical system design for power, lighting, fire alarm, and low-voltage infrastructure
  • Develop load calculations, panel schedules, one-line diagrams, and equipment layouts using Revit and Design Master
  • Perform voltage drop, fault current, and load calculations using Design Master or SKM
  • Coordinate utility service requirements, transformer sizing, and metering needs
  • Prepare system narratives, Basis of Design documents, and specifications
  • Collaborate with mechanical, architectural, structural, plumbing, and low-voltage teams
  • Participate in client meetings, design reviews, and coordination sessions
  • Support project managers with scope, schedules, and client communication
  • Perform QA/QC on drawings, models, and calculations
  • Conduct field visits for construction administration, including RFIs, submittals, and punch lists
  • Mentor and support junior engineering staff
Software Knowledge:
  • Revit (5+ years)
  • Design Master Electrical or SKM PowerTools (required)
  • Basic AutoCAD
  • Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam
