Position Summary: Plans and directs all aspects of Electrical Engineering activities. Also works in conjunction with the Mechanical Engineering Manager, assures all projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with established policies and objectives to provide solutions that will meet all customer requirements.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Plans electrical projects by determining specifications, conducting design reviews, managing budgets, selecting vendors, establishing schedules, verifying code requirements, updating cost estimates.
  • Communicate and problem solve with cross-functioning teams to ensure timely coordination of purchasing, production, quality control, and assembly.
  • Maintains thorough knowledge of all aspects of assigned products/projects regarding applications, design standards and procedures, control techniques, etc., to provide technical direction.
  • Provide engineering support to project management, engineers, technicians, service team, and the assembly departments.
  • Support in the determination of root cause and analysis and aid in the resolution of problems and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Provide programming assistance to team members.
  • Produce and maintain an engineering schedule.
  • Assign projects to engineers, designers, technicians, and electrical assemblers.
  • Follow up with team members to ensure the projects are on target.
  • Report too management problems concerning timely completion of assignments.
  • Maintain ERP System for engineering, track allotted time - versus actual time.
  • Evaluates product requirements provided and develops final product design to meet all customer requirements.
  • Attend Kick-off meetings on projects.
  • Attend project high-risk meetings to assist in determining project feasibility.
  • Collaborate with customers, project management, and sales team to obtain all information required for engineering.
  • Report to management teams on any problems concerning product design or machine performance concerns or project timeline concerns.
  • When required develop and provide completed PLC, HMI, and any other program applications required to control the system.
  • Responsible for project compliance with all applicable codes and customer supplied specifications.
  • Provide design assistance for moderately complex engineering assignments.
  • May conduct research to solve specific design problems.
  • Provide actionable suggestions for potential cost-savings or quality enhancing projects.
  • Recommend development or design changes to improve product quality and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Review and approve quotes for new products.
  • Respond to the sales team in a timely manner to provide quotes for prototypes.
  • Review print packages before they are released to manufacturing.
  • Assumes responsibility for the release of drawings, change notices, and bill of materials to manufacturing for production.
  • Review and approve all electrical engineering change orders and ensure accuracy of the change.
  • Maintains job knowledge by remaining current on codes/regulations.
  • Maintain the PDM database to ensure proper archiving of the project documents, prints, programs, etc.
  • Follow procedural guidelines in all areas of operation.
  • Ensure team members follow standards for layout/design of panels, print packages, machine code, machine & fixture assembly.
  • Continually develop processes and procedures to gain efficiency and uniformity.
  • Follow and maintain safety standards and practices.
  • Develop new safety standards as required.
  • Enforce that the safety practices and standards are followed by all departments.
  • Prepare annual budget and manage to within 5% of target.
  • Develop and provide direction, leadership and training to department employees & others as needed.
  • Follow ISO procedural guidelines in all areas of operation.
  • Develop new ISO procedures as required.
  • Maintain department employee records: vacation schedules, corrective action reports including follow-up actions.
  • Guide and help conduct employee performance reviews and disciplinary actions for department employees.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires an B.S. in Electrical Engineering and 8 years of experience (Manufacturing preferable)
  • Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 79, UL
  • Proficient in the following Engineering Application software, AB RsLogix / Studio 5000, AB FTView, AB RsLogix 500, Omron CX Designer/Programmer, Maple Systems, EasyBuilder Pro, RMC Tools, and software applications from other manufacturers a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to determine the origin of problems and initiate corrective action.
  • High degree of personal initiative.
  • Must be flexible, able to adjust schedule and pitch-in as needed.
  • Resourceful, accurate and highly organized with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to manage, prioritize and balance multiple tasks.
  • Proficient in ERP systems, Outlook, Word, Excel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Prior management experience a plus.
  • Travel required for machine installation/service, including some international.
