Join the City of Boise as an Electrical Inspector and play a vital role in keeping our community safe. You'll conduct skilled inspections of electrical systems in buildings throughout the city, ensuring installations meet national electrical codes and local ordinances. What You'll Need
An Idaho Electrical Journey-level License and four years of experience as a practicing journey-level electrician are required. You'll also need to obtain Electrical Inspector certification (IAEI or ICC) within six months of hire, which the City can assist with.

Inspects new and existing electrical wiring and installations in buildings and structures of any size or height to determine that installations conform to approved plans and applicable national electrical codes and City of Boise ordinance. Verifies that electrical equipment has the appropriate labeling and listings for the application. Performs on-site reviews of electrical plans and diagrams. Performs limited erosion and sediment control inspections. Handles moderately complex issues and problems and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff.
Writes correction notices and requires corrections of deficiencies discovered in electrical wiring and installations. Monitors the inspection area for work performed without permits, proper occupancy approval or dangerous conditions. Issues notices of violation, including stop-work orders, where unsafe or illegal conditions exist. Performs inspections of permitted work to verify progress on projects with little documented activity.
Coordinates power termination due to severe code and life safety violations with local utilities, supervisor and planning and development services staff members. Verifies the proper licensing of electrical contractors and journey-level workers. Responds to complaints from tenants, homeowners and others about possible substandard housing conditions due to electrical code violations.
Advises electrical contractors and homeowners on various installation problems relating to electrical codes. Provides information on the electrical code and other related regulatory requirements. Meets regularly with other electrical inspectors to develop policies and procedures to ensure uniformity of inspection.
Coordinates activities with other departments and inspection staff by recording inspection results in the city's database. Works with other inspectors to coordinate inspection coverage of the city and ensure that electrical work is inspected and approved before issuing a certificate of occupancy, completion or other final approval. Demonstrates continuous efforts to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality, seamless customer service.

Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
High school diploma or equivalent and four years of experience as a practicing journey-level electrician licensed in the State of Idaho. Within 6 months of hire passing electrical inspector certifications for residential and commercial installations offered by the Independent Alliance of the Electrical Industry (IAEI) or the International Code Council (ICC).
Knowledge of:
Valid state-issued driver's license.
Have or obtain within six months of employment the Electrical Inspector certification by the Independent Alliance of the Electrical Industry (IAEI) or the International Code Council (ICC) and the Erosion and Sediment Control Responsible Person's Certification.
Idaho Electrical Journey level license.

Physical Efforts
While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifting/carrying up to 35 pounds. Also, the employee is frequently pushing/pulling up to 10 pounds and occasionally pushing/pulling up to 35 pounds. The noise level is occasionally moderate. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear, smell and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, climb and balance. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.
Working Environment
The work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures, in wet and humid conditions, areas of dust, odors, mist and gases or other airborne matter. Employees are exposed to mechanical and electrical hazards, work in/at heights and confined spaces. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position.Construction sites at all stages of completion, heavy equipment, falling hazards, open excavation and temporary safety installations.
