Job Description

Position Title: Electrical Technician
Reports to: AM Electrical
Department: E&I
Division/Function: Operations
Location: SECMC – Thar Site

Job Purpose

The Electrical Technician in the Maintenance Section is responsible for supervising and executing electrical maintenance activities at the site. The role focuses on ensuring the proper functioning, reliability, and safety of all electrical systems and equipment. This includes transformers, motors, switchgear, MCC, PLC systems, excitation systems, grounding, and plant electrical distribution. The position requires leading technicians, coordinating with internal teams, troubleshooting issues, implementing preventive maintenance, and supporting commissioning activities — all while upholding the highest standards of safety, compliance, and operational efficiency.

Additionally, the Senior Electrical Technician will provide short- and long-term maintenance support, contribute to the design and commissioning of assigned projects, and ensure seamless execution of maintenance programs.

Qualifications

  • Education:
  • B.Tech in Electrical with 8–10 years of relevant experience, OR
  • DAE in Electrical with 12+ years of hands-on experience in a similar facility.
  • Technical Knowledge & Skills:
  • Protection system schemes and hardware for LV & MV systems.
  • Strong familiarity with control systems, field devices, and calibration tools.
  • Knowledge of excitation systems for large synchronous motors.
  • Proficient in interpreting single line diagrams for MV, LV, DC, control power, and emergency systems.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Maintenance & Operations:

  • Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance of equipment in assigned areas.
  • Monitor transformers, motors, switchgear, MCC, PLC systems, grounding, and safety systems.
  • Conduct audits (safety, electrical, PLC, grounding, conduit/JB systems) as per defined schedules.
  • Lead troubleshooting and fault diagnostics, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Ensure compliance with LOTOTO and safe isolation of equipment during maintenance.
  • Record material and manpower utilization against work orders to track costs.

Supervision & Reporting:

  • Guide and supervise junior technicians in executing jobs and troubleshooting issues.
  • Maintain maintenance logs, trend analysis, and report deviations to AM Electrical.
  • Prepare monthly Preventive Maintenance Program compliance reports and quarterly recurring problem analyses.
  • Support operators during emergencies and participate in incident investigations and PSSR reviews.

Safety & Compliance:

  • Ensure strict adherence to HSE protocols in all electrical activities.
  • Verify implementation of work permits (hot work, confined space, electrical, etc.).
  • Conduct area housekeeping during and after jobs.
  • Monitor and check safety equipment in operational areas.
  • Report injuries, illnesses, or ergonomic issues; comply with medical assessments and return-to-work plans.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Support standardization and design of systems to facilitate online maintenance and ease of operation.
  • Update critical security programs and document exceptions with justifications.
  • Participate in cross-functional collaboration with HSE, operations, warehouse, and maintenance teams.
  • Configure alarms and monitoring systems to ensure timely response to abnormalities or pump failures.

Emergency Handling:

  • Respond promptly to power outages, pump failures, and unexpected shutdowns.
  • Provide technical support during breakdowns to minimize downtime.
  • Be available for call-outs and long working hours in compliance with labor law when required.

Key Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of LV/MV systems and protection schemes.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and preventive maintenance practices.
  • Leadership skills to mentor and guide junior technicians.
  • Familiarity with HSE risk assessment techniques.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: Rs110,000.00 - Rs145,000.00 per month
