Certified Electrician is responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems in accordance with national and local electrical codes. This role ensures safe and reliable operation of electrical infrastructure in residential, commercial, or industrial environments.
Key Responsibilities Installation & Maintenance
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, fixtures, systems, and equipment.
- Interpret and work from blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams.
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on electrical systems.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all electrical work complies with NEC, local codes, and safety standards.
- Identify electrical hazards, defective equipment, or wiring, and take corrective action.
- Follow lockout/tagout and other workplace safety procedures.
Troubleshooting & Repair
- Diagnose electrical issues using testing devices such as voltmeters, ammeters, and oscilloscopes.
- Repair or replace malfunctioning components including breakers, transformers, motors, and control systems.
- Respond to emergency repair requests and minimize downtime.
Project Support
- Assist in planning electrical layouts for new construction or renovation projects.
- Estimate time, materials, and labor needed for installations and repairs.
- Collaborate with contractors, engineers, supervisors, and other tradespeople.
Documentation
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance activities, and equipment status.
- Complete work orders, inspection reports, and compliance documentation.
Qualifications Education & Certification
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Electrician Certification (required).
Experience
- 2–5+ years of experience as a certified electrician (varies by organization needs).
- Experience with residential, commercial, or industrial electrical systems.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of electrical theory, code compliance, and safety standards.
- Ability to use electrical testing tools and hand/power tools.
- Skilled in troubleshooting and resolving complex electrical issues.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Good communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
