The subject supervisor is to work with the teachers and School educational leadership to ensure high standards of teaching and learning practice and education processes, to raise standards of student attainment and achievement within the respective subject area.


EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree at minimum. Preferably master's degree in the subject area


EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

6+ years of teaching at a minimum, preferably across phases.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assists the Executive Education Officer and the school principal in ensuring high quality professional practice (curriculum standards and teaching and learning practices).

• Co-ordinates teaching and learning in the subject/s of responsibility.

• Holds and leads regular departmental meetings and ensures minutes of meeting are recorded and logged.

• Visits classes and evaluates teaching practices to ensure high quality effective teaching and learning.

• Documents all class visits and provides constructive feedback to teachers to prompt quality teaching and learning practices.

• Provides regular reports and briefs to the Education Executive Officer and the relevant authorities on the status of the curriculum, instructional practices and related affairs.

• Conducts periodic and annual performance evaluation for the department's staff.

• Participates in books reviews at the school as well as advises and contributes to curriculum design and development.

• Coaches and mentors new staff members and defines professional development needs of the department staff.

• Participates in developing and reviewing the objectives, policies ,targets and procedures in context of the curriculum and other instructional matters.

• Verifies examination papers, co-ordinates marking schemes, and moderates examinations and assessment processes

• Collects, analyzes, and uses student results data to support Instructional decision-making in his/ her subject area.

• Ensures the timely and adequate requests of textbooks, materials, equipment, and resources required for the effective teaching of the subject

• Advises on retention and termination of the department's staff based on performance review

• Undertakes any teaching task whenever needed (see Job Description of a Teacher) or any other related task assigned by the line manager.
