Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate wildfire suppression activities from the fire engine, ensuring all crew members understand their roles and safety protocols.
- Drive and operate fire engines and support vehicles safely across rugged terrains, adhering to all traffic and safety regulations.
- Assess fire behavior and terrain to develop strategic plans for containment and suppression efforts.
- Conduct safety briefings, monitor crew health and vital signs, and respond promptly to emergencies on the fireline.
- Maintain detailed incident logs, equipment records, and communication reports during firefighting operations.
- Perform basic mechanical inspections and troubleshooting on fire engines and related equipment to ensure operational readiness.
- Assist with first aid and basic life support measures for injured team members or civilians when necessary.
Skills
- Proven experience as a wildland firefighter with a strong understanding of wildfire behavior and suppression tactics.
- EMT experience along with certifications in first aid, CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), and basic life support to provide immediate medical assistance if needed.
- Valid commercial driver’s license with experience in heavy vehicle operation; mechanical knowledge is highly desirable.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely for extended periods in outdoor environments under challenging conditions.
- Strong observational skills to monitor vital signs, assess injuries, and recognize signs of fatigue or distress among team members.
- Excellent leadership abilities with clear communication skills to direct crew activities effectively.
