Engineer I, Construction Road

Job Purpose

To oversee the execution of earthworks activities for road construction projects, ensuring alignment with design specifications, safety standards, and project timelines. Working under the direction of the Construction Manager – Earthworks, this role drives operational efficiency, manages site performance, and provides technical guidance to ensure high-quality project delivery.

Principal Accountabilities

Policies, Processes & Procedures

• Adhere to organizational policies and procedures to ensure compliance and maintain a productive work environment.

• Implement and uphold safety and security protocols to protect the well-being of all employees and company assets.

Planning, Coordination & Execution of Earthworks

• Plan and oversee all earthworks activities, including excavation, cut-and-fill, grading, compaction, embankment construction, and subgrade preparation.

• Review project drawings, specifications, and method statements to ensure accurate and efficient execution.

• Develop work programs and schedules in alignment with the Construction Manager – Earthworks.

• Guide and support Earthwork Site Engineers in executing daily activities to ensure alignment with project requirements.

• Assign tasks, monitor performance, and provide technical directions to ensure work quality and productivity.

• Coordinate closely with engineers, surveyors, contractors, and site staff to maintain effective communication and operational flow.

• Manage deployment of manpower, machinery, and materials for assigned works.

• Track equipment utilization, productivity, and downtime, and report issues to the Construction Manager.

• Recommend resource adjustments as needed to maintain efficiency and meet project timelines.

Monitoring, Compliance & Reporting

• Monitor daily and weekly progress of earthworks activities against project schedules.

• Prepare progress reports, work logs, and resource utilization summaries for submission to the Construction Manager – Earthworks.

• Identify and report risks, delays, or deviations from project specifications to ensure timely corrective actions.

• Ensure compliance with design specifications, technical standards, and quality benchmarks for all earthworks.

• Oversee field testing (e.g., compaction, soil suitability, moisture content) and address any deficiencies promptly to uphold quality and safety standards.

Miscellaneous Duties

• Perform additional duties as needed to support the team and overall business objectives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree Civil Engineering

• 6-7 years of experience in road construction and large-scale earthworks, with at least 2–4 years in a senior engineering role
