Engineering Laboratory Technician

This position requires the following certifications:

  • Asphalt Level II
  • Ohio Aggregate Level I
  • ODOT Soil Classification

Responsibilities:

  • Perform soils, concrete, aggregate, and asphalt testing on lab samples
  • Assist to obtain and maintain certifications for AASHTO Resource and CRL accreditation
  • Perform and/or coordinate timely calibrations and maintenance of field and laboratory equipment to industry codes and standards
  • Enter lab test data in laboratory software
  • Enter laboratory data into the data management system and prepare professional test reports for review by the Lab Manager
  • Interpret ASTM and AASHTO procedures
  • Perform and understand laboratory testing of soils and aggregates including, but not limited to moisture-density relationships, Atterberg Limits, grainsize analysis, percent swell, consolidation testing, direct shear, unconfined compressive strength, organic content and visual description of soils
  • Perform and understand laboratory testing of asphalt including, but not limited to asphalt content (solvent and burn off methods), gradation, bulk specific gravity and density, Mashall testing, and core thickness determinations
  • Perform and understand laboratory testing of concrete including, but not limited to compressive strength of concrete, grout, and masonry, and flexural strength of concrete beams

Additional Responsibilities May Include:

  • Performing field testing for soil, aggregate, asphalt, and concrete
  • Calculate results from construction materials testing data
  • Accurately complete field-testing paperwork
  • Other tasks as needed

Pay: $21.00 - $26.00 per hour
