Summary
The Engineering Manager monitors the company’s post-sales engineering activities to ensure profitability and customer satisfaction. Plans, organizes, and reviews the performance of professional and/or technical staff performing engineering work; performs professional engineering and related administrative work involving the research, design, construction, quoting, and related activities of the project engineering team. Develops business with local plant support shops to establish a direct business at the Customer to be the customers’ first choice for services. Responsible for implementing and supporting the KUKA Digital Portfolio to generate leads for all MPFs (Material Product Field).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Engineering Management

Supports and grows the profitable sales of engineering services to 3rd party customers.

Oversees engineering activities.

Prepares/approves engineering project quotes.

Responsible for the technical content and timely completion of custom engineering projects for customers.

Serves as direct customer interface for Engineering support needs.

Provides pre-sales technical feasibility assessment and estimates project resources.

Responsible for supporting Operations in the delivery of released products.

Contributes to establishing, documenting, implementing and maintenance of departmental operation and technical procedures and processes with the intent of standardizing designs and reducing product development time and costs.

Develops, organizes and controls all aspects of the department, including department goals, labor forecasts, schedules, project budgets and project manpower.

Assigns and oversees the definition and execution of project objectives including cost and schedule targets.

Coordinates and conducts design reviews, internally and with customers.

Stays abreast of industry technology and leads the management decision as to when to start using new approaches.

Supports and documents programs from a product standpoint with the emphasis to maintain consistency globally and locally at KUKA.

Works with staff to create personal development plans for required training/advancement to meet demands of the marketplace.

Frequent travel to customer sites on general business errands is required – both domestic and occasional international of varying length is required (passport required).

Aids in selection of engineering resources outside of KUKA.

Understands and follows safety regulations and identifies safety concerns.

Supervisory Responsibility
Directly supervises employees in the engineering department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, electronic, etc. prints and other related technical documentation.

Knowledge of the fundamentals of customer service for phone and face-to-face contact with customers.

PC skills/knowledge (MS Office environment, Internet, email, etc.)

Valid driver’s license required.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree (B.S.E.E./B.S.C./B.S.M.E.) from a four-year college or university with ten or more years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
