Engineering Manager
Role Purpose
As the Engineering Manager, you will lead a multi-skilled team within the Workshop Department, comprising Machinists, Mechanical Fitters, and Stores Control personnel. The workshop is equipped with a range of heavy machinery, including horizontal and vertical borers, CNC lathes, milling machines, and balancing equipment.
The primary purpose of the role is to apply sound mechanical engineering knowledge and design principles to assess incoming repair projects and define appropriate repair strategies. You will take ownership of refurbishment projects from initial evaluation through all stages of fabrication, machining, assembly, and testing.
This role requires effective planning, coordination, and technical oversight to ensure all activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with required H&S, quality standards and specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Co-manage the workshop department alongside the workshop manager, providing technical leadership and expertise. Controlling project costs, lead times, and resource allocation.
- Produce detailed machining and fabrication drawings using CAD or equivalent software.
- Plan and coordinate workloads across machining, fabrication, and fitting teams to ensure efficient workflow and resource utilisation.
- Ensuring the highest level of Health and Safety; that department operations are in accordance with all regulatory/company Health and Safety requirements/procedure and when required assist in producing RAMS.
- Drive continuous improvement in workshop processes, engineering standards, and production efficiency & quality.
- Liaise with customers where required to clarify technical requirements and communicate repair approaches.
The Candidate
The successful applicant should have:
· Strong mechanical engineering background, ideally within refurbishment, heavy engineering or manufacturing environments.
· Experience working with pumps, valves, or similar equipment is preferred but not essential.
· Proficiency in CAD or other technical drawing software.
· Good understanding of machining, fabrication, and mechanical assembly processes.
· Ability to design and deliver engineering solutions from concept through to completion.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical reporting.
· Understanding of corrosion mechanisms and protective coating systems (or willingness to develop this knowledge).
Pay: £45,000.00-£50,000.00 per year
