General Information:

JMU's Facilities Management is hiring for an Engineering Project Manager. This position will coordinate the construction and renovation of major maintenance, capital outlay and renovation projects which will include the preparation of drawings, specifications, project cost estimates and contract administration.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Project Manager for Non-Capital (under $3 Million) projects

JMU coordinator to the Division of Engineering and Buildings(DEB)

JMU coordinator to the State Fire Marshal’s office

Enforcing of building code procedures and the annual permit policy

Developing of specifications, drawings, cost estimates, and other documents required to construct, renovate, or alter university facilities

Verifying the installation of building systems and correcting problems to ensure operation by evaluating work performed

Ensuring of the preparation of required documentation in a timely manner

Reviewing and providing comment on scopes of service by evaluating compliance

Administering of projects and contracts to ensure conformance

Resolving of problems and coordinating resolutions

Inspecting and making recommendations for Capital Outlay construction projects by performing periodic site visits

Managing outside architects, engineering, and contractors on university Non-Capital Outlay projects

Reviewing of contract documents, plans, specifications, and related material prepared by architects/engineers and providing recommendations for compliance


Qualifications:

Knowledge of Virginia State Building Codes

Knowledge of building permitting in a jurisdiction; knowledge of building permitting with the Commonwealth of Virginia – Division of Engineering and Buildings would be beneficial

Significant project management experience; this experience in higher education would be beneficial

Ability to read construction documents

Design and construction experience

Ability to manage multiple tasks

Ability to accommodate any necessary temporary shift demands

Driver's license required
