This position involves responsible, dynamic and engaging professional work in outreach, science communication and content creation for ERM, an organization widely recognized as a state and national leader in habitat restoration and local level environmental management. Performs a wide range of duties, including creating photo and video content, delivering presentations, participating in on camera work and media interviews, creating outreach displays, managing events and festivals, leading eco-tours, overseeing social media channels, and supporting email marketing initiatives. The role requires substantial knowledge of South Florida ecosystems, along with a strong passion for learning and communicating scientific information to all members of the community. May have some supervisory responsibilities for supporting staff or student interns. Exercises independent judgement in performing various outreach tasks including communicating to different audiences while representing the department. Performance is reviewed by an administrative superior through conferences, reports, and observation of results achieved. Works under the supervision of the Environmental Program Supervisor in the Outreach & Science Communication section.


QUALIFICATIONS
:

Bachelor’s Degree in one of the Physical or Natural Sciences (Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Marine Science, Forestry, Wildlife Biology or related field); minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in environmental protection, environmental regulation, natural resources management, OR one (1) year of professional experience in natural resource outreach and science communication.


Equivalencies
:

  • Related Ph.D.
  • Related Master’s Degree AND one (1) year of professional experience in environmental protection, environmental regulation, natural resources management, OR six (6) months of professional experience in natural resource outreach and science communication
  • Unrelated Bachelor’s Degree AND three (3) years of professional experience in environmental protection, environmental regulation, natural resources management, OR two (2) years of professional experience in natural resource outreach and science communication
  • Associate’s Degree AND four (4) years of professional experience in environmental protection, environmental regulation, natural resources management, OR three (3) years of professional experience in natural resource outreach and science communication
  • Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification AND six (6) years of professional experience in environmental protection, environmental regulation, natural resources management, OR five (5) years of professional experience in natural resource outreach and science communication.


PREFERENCE FOR EXPERIENCE IN/WITH: Original photo and video content creation with story-telling focus across multiple devices, such as phones, mirrorless and Digital Single-Lens Reflex (DSLR), drone, etc.); Adobe creative suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, splice, Instagram Edits, social media content management; on-camera experience in both scripted and live settings. Also desirable: Paddle instructor certification through the American Canoe Association (ACA); first aid/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
