What You'll Be Doing

Wake County Onsite Water Protection is seeking a qualified, self-motivated Environmental Consultant with strong problem-solving abilities to join our experienced team of wastewater inspection professionals.

Wake County On-Site Water Protection promotes leadership in water management and sustainability and promotes health by protecting high quality water throughout Wake County. This mission is part of our strategic planning and drives our division to respond to new needs continuously.

In this role you will:
Perform required inspections of septic systems under the Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Program
Authorize septic system repair permits as needed when malfunctions are identified
Offer expert advice and support related to onsite wastewater systems
Contribute to broader environmental health efforts beyond inspections
Support public education and outreach effort related to water protection
Work collaboratively to enhance environmental health outcomes across the department

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)
Bachelor's degree in Soil Science, Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or related field
Three years of experience in environmental planning, inspections or engineering
NC Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS)
Valid Driver's License and "safe" driving record
Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)
Advanced degree in environmental or natural sciences
How Will We Know You're 'The One'?
Knowledge of laws, rules and ordinances pertaining to public health and on-site waste disposal systems
Excellent oral and written communication skills to understand a customer perspective and provide services that meet expectations
Strong computer skills to use word processing, spreadsheet, and some database functionality
Detail oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to prioritize, manage and coordinate multiple assignments
Results and quality oriented with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
Must be able to work and perform duties in all types of weather, vegetative conditions and terrain

Employment Type: Regular

Work Schedule: Mon - Fri 8:30am - 5:15pm

Hiring Range: 75,108 - 105,155

Market Range: 75,108.00 - 135,202.00
