Position Summary:
An Environmental Engineer in the UAE is responsible for planning, designing, and implementing environmental systems and sustainability initiatives that comply with UAE federal and emirate-level regulations. The role involves conducting environmental assessments, managing permits, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting sustainable development across sectors such as construction, oil & gas, infrastructure, waste management, and water resources.

Key Responsibilities

1. Environmental Compliance & Regulatory Work

· Ensure projects comply with UAE environmental laws (e.g., MOCCAE regulations, EAD standards, Dubai Municipality requirements, ADNOC Codes of Practice).

  • Prepare and submit environmental permit applications, compliance reports, and monitoring documentation.
  • Liaise with government authorities such as the Ministry of Climate Change & Environment, Dubai Municipality, and Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi.

2. Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA)

  • Conduct EIAs, Environmental Baseline Studies, and Environmental Risk Assessments for new or existing projects.
  • Prepare EIA reports, review consultant submissions, and ensure mitigation measures are implemented.

3. Pollution Control & Waste Management

  • Develop plans for air quality control, noise mitigation, hazardous materials handling, and solid/liquid waste management.
  • Oversee waste segregation, recycling initiatives, and safe disposal in accordance with UAE regulations.

4. Sustainability & Environmental Management Systems

  • Implement and maintain ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
  • Support sustainability certification programs (LEED, Estidama, GSAS, etc.).
  • Recommend eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient solutions for projects.

5. Water & Soil Management

  • Support water conservation initiatives, groundwater protection, and wastewater treatment projects.
  • Manage soil remediation, erosion control, and stormwater management plans.

6. Monitoring & Reporting

· Conduct environmental monitoring: air emissions, water quality, noise, biodiversity, and workplace environment.

· Prepare technical reports, corrective action plans, and incident investigation summaries.

7. Stakeholder Coordination

  • Work with contractors, consultants, project managers, and regulatory bodies to ensure environmental requirements are integrated into project planning and execution.
  • Deliver training and awareness programs for site personnel.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of UAE environmental legislation and permitting processes.
  • Experience in EIA/EES, environmental monitoring, and risk assessment.
  • Proficiency in GIS, AutoCAD, environmental modeling tools (e.g., AERMOD, CALPUFF).
  • Strong analytical, reporting, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in fast-paced environments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Relevant certifications (ISO 14001 Lead Auditor, NEBOSH, LEED AP/GA, etc.).
  • 8+ years of experience, preferably in UAE-based construction projects.
