Pay will be determined based on location and level of selected individual.
Anchorage, Soldotna, Wasilla salary: $26.66 / $30.62 / $35.28
Fairbanks salary: $27.46 / $31.54 / $36.34
Juneau salary: $27.99 /$32.15 / $37.04

Join Our Team: Environmental Program Specialist 1/2/3 – Capacity Development Program
The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation’s Division of Water is seeking a motivated and collaborative individual to flexibly fill one Environmental Program Specialist 1/2/3 position within our Capacity Development Program. This is an exciting opportunity to support public water and wastewater systems across Alaska in building the technical, managerial, and financial capacity needed to operate sustainably and protect public health.

This position plays a key role in implementing the State Capacity Development Strategy, which aims to ensure that water and wastewater utilities—especially in rural and underserved communities—are equipped to provide safe and effective services.

A typical day in this role may include:
This is a collaborative support role—not a regulatory or enforcement position. The position does not involve scientific fieldwork, sample collection or direct regulatory enforcement. You’ll work closely with water operators, engineers, public agencies, and community members, to communicate technical and financial concepts in an accessible and engaging way.

The working environment you can expect:
This position may be based in Anchorage, Soldotna, Wasilla, Fairbanks, or Juneau, with potential for telework after probationary period. We rely on Microsoft Teams for daily collaboration across locations, and while the role is primarily office-based, occasional travel may be required for trainings, conferences, or community visits.

This position is flexibly staffed. The level of the job offer will be based on the selected candidate’s credibly possessed and proven competencies. If hired at the lower level, you will be promoted to the higher level after completing the training plan and demonstrating competency in the work.
