Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) is one of the largest privately-held architecture and engineering firms in the Southeast, with offices located throughout Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee.

GMC has an opening for Environmental Scientist to support on-going projects in our Montgomery, AL office. This position will be an Environmental Scientist I with responsibilities focused on managing National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) General Construction Stormwater compliance. Other responsibilities include managing biological resources-related projects, preparing technical reports and plans in accordance with agency requirements, and assisting the biological resources team during environmental reviews of projects by the appropriate jurisdictions and agencies.

Essential functions and responsibilities include:

  • The Environmental Scientist I will be required to conduct construction stormwater permitting and inspections and other types of environmental science / biology work to include wetland delineations and permitting, threatened and endangered species surveys, Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, and National Environmental Policy Act documentation
  • Stormwater site inspections to include field inspections for erosion and sedimentation, detention pond and other best management practice (BMP) inspections
  • Perform field work in support of site investigations, monitoring, and delineations etc.
  • Other activities, as directed by your supervisor
  • Training will be provided to you for the various elements described above, as needed
  • Ability to write reports and communicate with internal and external clients
  • You will be required to operate a company-owned vehicle in the performance of your duties

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor in Environmental Science related field, Biology, Ecology, Forestry, Geology
  • 0-3+ Years of experience
  • Physically able to perform field work

Travel requirements:

  • 60% Office and 40% Field
  • Occasional overnight travel
