. Indiana University Health is seeking individuals who embody these values to join our Information Services leadership team in the role of Epic BI Developer III. This is a Direct Hire with Hybrid Onsite obligations at the Shadeland location.

Scope:
  • Responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining business intelligence solutions within the Epic EHR environment.
  • This includes working with Epic’s data models (Clarity and Caboodle) to create meaningful reports, dashboards, and analytics tools that support clinical, financial, and operational decision-making across the healthcare organization.
  • Report Development & Data Extraction: Build, test, and maintain custom reports and dashboards using Epic Clarity (SQL-based reporting database) and Epic Caboodle (data warehouse).
  • Develop SQL queries to extract and aggregate data from Epic modules (e.g., Ambulatory, Inpatient, Resolute Billing) for clinical, operational, and financial reporting.
  • Create reports that meet regulatory, operational, and leadership requirements, ensuring data accuracy and compliance.
  • Dashboard Design & Analytics: Design and implement interactive dashboards using tools like Epic Cogito and SlicerDicer to provide end-users with insights into key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Build intuitive, visual data representations to support clinical outcomes, patient experience, and operational efficiency.
  • Data Integration & ETL: Perform ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to integrate data from Epic systems with external sources for advanced analytics.
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure data integrity and accuracy during the ETL process.
  • Collaboration with Stakeholders: Work closely with clinical, financial, and operational teams to gather reporting requirements and translate them into technical specifications for BI solutions.
  • Engage with department leaders to ensure reports meet their needs, from patient care insights to financial performance monitoring.
  • Assist non-technical stakeholders with data interpretation and usage of BI tools.
  • Data Governance & Documentation: Ensure that all BI solutions adhere to organizational data governance and security policies, including compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory requirements.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation for reports, dashboards, and ETL processes to ensure consistency and transparency.
  • Optimization & Performance Tuning: Monitor report performance and optimize SQL queries and data structures to improve load times and efficiency.
  • Proactively identify and resolve issues related to data extraction, transformation, and reporting.
  • Training & Support: Provide training and support to end-users on how to use self-service tools like SlicerDicer for ad-hoc reporting and data exploration.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for all Epic BI-related questions and issues within the organization.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on Epic’s reporting tools and technologies and proactively identify new opportunities to improve the organization’s reporting and analytics capabilities.
  • Participate in Epic upgrades and implement new reporting features as they are released.

  • Reports to: EPIC Cogito Manager

Candidate Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered.
  • 5-7 years of relevant IIS, clinical experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Epic Certification: Certification in one or more Epic modules (e.g., Cogito, Caboodle Data Model, Clarity Data Model, Revenue Data Model) is highly desirable. For internal candidates, obtaining the necessary Epic certification(s) will be an essential part of the onboarding and transition process, with full support provided to ensure successful completion.
  • Proficiency in SQL for writing complex queries and optimizing database performance.
  • Experience with BI and reporting tools like Crystal Reports, Tableau, Power BI, or similar.
  • Familiarity with Epic-specific BI tools such as Cogito, SlicerDicer, and Caboodle.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Ability to solve complex problems and translate business needs into system solutions.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare business processes and technology, with basic knowledge of healthcare workflows and terminology.
  • Familiarity with IT solutions and interfacing is a plus.
  • Ability to travel to assigned sites as required.
