Estimation Engineer/QS

Job Title: Estimation Engineer / Quantity Surveyor (Aluminum & Steel Structures)

Job Overview

An Estimation Engineer / QS is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, material take-offs, and tender submissions for aluminum and steel structure projects (such as facades, curtain walls, structural steel frames, and architectural metal works). The role ensures projects are priced competitively while maintaining profitability.

Key Responsibilities1. Estimation & Costing

• Analyze drawings, specifications, and project documents
• Prepare detailed cost estimates for aluminum and steel works
• Perform material take-offs (profiles, sheets, fasteners, accessories)
• Calculate fabrication and installation costs
• Evaluate labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs

2. Tendering

• Prepare and submit tender documents and BOQs (Bill of Quantities)
• Request and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations
• Identify risks and opportunities in tenders
• Attend pre-bid meetings if required

3. Quantity Surveying

• Measure quantities from drawings and site data
• Prepare BOQs and cost plans
• Track project costs vs. budget
• Assist in variations, claims, and change orders

4. Technical Coordination

• Work closely with design, engineering, and project teams
• Understand systems such as:
• Curtain wall systems
• Aluminum cladding & glazing
• Structural steel frameworks
• Review shop drawings and specifications

5. Cost Control & Reporting

• Monitor ongoing project costs
• Prepare cost reports and forecasts
• Suggest cost-saving alternatives (value engineering)

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering / Mechanical Engineering / Quantity Surveying
• 2-5 years of experience in aluminum & steel structure estimation
• Strong knowledge of:
• Aluminum profiles and systems
• Structural steel fabrication and erection
• Proficiency in software:
• AutoCAD
• Excel (advanced)
• Estimation software
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
• Good negotiation and communication skills

Preferred Experience

• Experience with façade, curtain wall, or metal fabrication companies
• Knowledge of international standards
