Pay & Compensation

• Typical average earnings: $14–17/hour, including tips and mileage reimbursement
• Base pay starts at about $12.50/hour before tips
• Paid per visit, plus tips, mileage reimbursement, and referral bonuses
• W-2 employee position (not a 1099 contractor)
• Holiday pay: Major holidays are paid at approximately 1.5x base pay

Required Availability

• Evening shifts are 3:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., Monday through Sunday.
• Applicants must be available at least four evenings each week.
• Candidates with broader evening availability are strongly preferred, especially those available five or more evenings.
• Occasional or regular weekend availability is a plus
• During the school year, start times may be flexible for teachers, college students, and other school-based professionals, with shifts able to begin as late as 4:30 p.m., provided the required evening availability is still met.

Important Things to Know Before Applying

• Variable schedule: Weekly hours fluctuate based on client needs. This is a year-round position, with the highest demand for evening coverage during Spring Break, summer, and major holidays. Most team members average part-time hours annually, with opportunities for near full-time hours seasonally. This role is best suited as supplemental income.
• Holidays: Availability on most major holidays is required, with additional holiday pay
• Weather: This work continues in rain, heat, cold, and snow. Pets rely on us regardless of the forecast
• Transportation: You will travel between clients’ homes, so reliable personal transportation is required

Typical Responsibilities

• Visit clients’ homes to care for pets while families are out of town
• Walk dogs during afternoon and evening hours
• Provide feeding, fresh water, medication when needed, and potty breaks
• Scoop yards as part of routine pet care visits
• Communicate clearly and professionally with clients and the Blue Skies team

This is an active, hands-on role. Reliability is essential. Pets depend on us for their daily care, comfort, and safety. Training, support, and clear expectations are provided so team members feel confident working independently.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years or older
• Must live in Newton, North Newton, or Hesston
• Must have consistent access to an insured, reliable vehicle
• Must have a smartphone with a data plan
• Must be comfortable working with both dogs and cats
• Must be punctual, organized, and able to work independently
• Must provide two work references
• Must be willing to commit to at least 12 months with the company
• Must pass a criminal background check
• Physical requirements include the ability to walk several miles per day, safely manage dogs who may pull on leash, regularly kneel, bend, and crouch, work outdoors in varying weather conditions, maintain awareness of surroundings while handling pets, and lift or carry up to 50 lbs when needed.
